Which is your worst restaurant, the one we dont like is the village in koukouneries, all cooks are smoking while dishing out food, the food is not the best, and the toilets are very smelly |

For me it's Polycratis.
I’m not sure if it is a Taverna or Restaurant but I haven’t been there for a long time, simply because there are better places to eat.
Polycratis is not a bad place it has a wide selection of food and is very well organised.
Maybe that's it, it's just to organised.
If you are lucky enough to visit Skiathos out of season you soon get to know where the really good tavernas are and who is doing the cooking. |

I would like to think that there are no bad Tavernas on Skiathos!
I think it works like this. If your first visit is a disaster for whatever reason you won’t go back and you tell people what a rubbish place it was!! Like wise if you first visit is a good one you will always go back and then forgive a bad one and try again, blaming it on the cooks day off or something. I know this because the ones I won’t go back to (yet) are other poster's favourites, so I might give them another chance.

Spot on.
It’s all down to individual preferences.
Fresh or frozen |

| I agree with SLJohn's comments about eating places - last year one of our fav eating places managed to serve up two awful meals one was a steak which was so tough it couldn't be cut and then the moussaka bombed - hasn't put us off though, the good outweighs the bad. |

True, you get noticed and they remember you when you come back. Its a great way for you to meet the locals too ... _________________

Not visited every taverna, so could not reasonably say which is the worst. I hear what the others say, you get a bad deal or a good deal, you tend to develop a pattern.
Example, I had always regarded the Thesaloniki Taverna on MA as a "don't miss" on our trips, but they really bombed big time on our visit 2005. Absolutely everything was wrong. Will probably go again this year though. _________________ Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |

I cant think of a "worst" one as I don't recall ever having had a bad meal in Skiathos, only niggle would be we walked away from the Bourtzi bar having ordered another round of drinks (which we'd still be waiting for) _________________ you heard it here first - BOJAN! |

Haven't had any really bad restaurants. Although Mrs Foxy didn't enjoy her meal at Paradiso in Troulos.
We also had a bad service experience at La Scuna which means we'll never go back. |

| Haven't heard anyone mention the Tapas - Don Quijote, at the harbour. Is it still there. We loved it, but haven't been to the island for 3 years |

Still there as far as I know. Wasn't it on top of the Hotel that looks like a saloon bar (Don Pepe?) |

We probably will chelleb, like I said, they had always been great, but our last visit was like an episode of Fawlty Towers without the comic relief. They delievered stuff we hadn't ordered, forgot stuff we had, the main dishes were wrong and cold, the wine was not just warm, it was hot.
It's not like they were overly busy either, there were just 4-5 other couples in the entire place. _________________ Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |

I agree that if you have a bad experience it puts you off returning which is a shame. Everyone raves about Maria's Pizza in Skiathos Town and I have to say the food is good but, and a big but, we Brits dont like to wait 2 hours for a meal. Granted the slow pace of life in Greece I accept but when 6 of us went to Maria's, to wait for a table in that queue for over 40 mins was acceptable but then to wait nearly 2 hours for 6 pizzas which came one at a time with 15 minute gaps was beyond the pall !!! After the first two pizzas had sat on the table for 10 mins - as once again we always think its polite to wait until everyone has their meal in front of them - we complained. They werent happy ! Eventually we decided that the best option, rather than let these pizzas go cold, was to share each one that came out between us one at a time - we were called 'the English' ! It is not a cheap restaurant and it is a shame they cant get it right. I wonder if anyone else has had this experience - were we just unlucky. _________________ www.ClearSpray.co.uk

I think alot of this comes from culture differences and whether or not the food is frozen or fresh. If they are using a traditional wood/charcoal oven and preparing everything fresh it is going to take forever, even though two hours is a bit beyond reasonable.
Many a time we have sat in tavernas where the dishes come out when they are ready rather than at the same time. Traditionally the food gets put in the middle and everyone tucks in, the introduction of individual starters for example is a western european thing that has developed to pander for the tourist need.
I'm happy to order a main course and receive it over an hour later if I know it's cooked from freshly prepared ingredients...and there aren't many places like that still left. |
