HI there, fell in love with Greece at about the age of 1!! My family and myself have been coming to Skiathos for the last 9 years and feel totally at home there. I am now in a possition were i feel that i could make the move to better mine and my daughter's lifes. She is only 16 months old, so my main concern is education for her, I was fortunate enough to live abroad when i was younger and would love to offer her the same.
so my questions if you can help:
1. What is the Greek eduation like?
2. DO the term times run anything like UK schools (eg do they have 6 weeks or so off in the summer?)
3. I know that there is a Greek school, is there a local British school?
4. Is it easy to enrole?
5. Is there activities are evens for young children in the winter?
6. As well as have Lesiure and Tourism qualifications,I also have child care quilfications do you think i could use this to fined work?
7. I would be renting for the first year or so (as I need to be 100% sure befor i make the move) - how much rent would i expect to pay in town for a 2/3 bed aprtment?
If there is anything more you think i need to consider please let me know.
And Thank you for your help! only 81 days till i am back on the island of my dreams!!! |

hi.
pm darell and clair, as i think there are some available flats right opposite theirs.
yr child is still to young for school,(i think they can start at kindergarden at around 3, so you have plenty of time to find out more info.(as a eu citizen y have exaclty the same rights as us greeks)
there are no british schoolls in skiathos.
greek kids are the luckiest in the world as they get off from school at june the 10th and start again at sept the 15th.
also they have 2 weeks off for christmas and 2 for easter!!!
some friend who also is relocating, told me last week he found the 650 euros per month rent he was asked extravagant.
but the new 2 bedrooms flat he looked at also had many extravagant feautures like, central heating and aircon, whasing machine for cloths and one for dishes, satelite saround system with plasma tv,fully equipt kitshen , parkin space ecth. |

| the greek education system is at least 2 years behind england.you will as a female struggle to find work in the winter months.you must also be aware of the village mentality that sets in on skiathos in the winter veryone knows all your business and i mean all.....................................................................................and wouldnt swap it for the world.our kids finished school on fri am and are playing in the sealunchtime,ok mam n dad were working flat out till 11pm but dont mind working 24 7 in summer cause our kids aint stuck in a house in england playing ps games or watching tv.it aint all rosy but it sure beats england |
