|
|
Just popped in to say Hello. I was really surprised to find this forum but I am delighted to find others who like me are truly in love with Skiathos. My husband and myself have visited the island about 10 times over the last 15 years or so usually managing one visit a year but some years missed to try elsewhere (big mistake) but we always return becuase there really is nowhere quite like it for us.
All our friends and family are a bit fed up with us rabbiting on about how lovely it is and think we are totaly boring to keep going back , but we dont care we just love it, and its not becuase we havnt been anywhere else , we keep trying to break away but like boomerangs we keep coming back.
We first came on a dirt cheap late deal and stayed in a really strange apartment on the main road at Achalaidies beach. It was noisy as it was close to the road , and overlooked the Greek families garden which was a hive of social activy and entertained us for hours. We had a lovely view of the sea and a 4 minute amble down to the beach and we relaxed so much during that week that we didnt know what day it was when we finally got around to ring home from the call box on the beach while waiting for the water taxi into town one evening.
We were smitten and just kept being drawn back.
We have seen many chages over the years , but have also seen many things stay reasuringly the same and have collected lots of happy memories and information about the place over the years. I hope we can help with some of the queries that people may have, but we are still learniing and finding new experiences every time we go, thats what we love about the island , it never fails to surprises us .
Since Mama Mia hit the big screen , family and friends have actaully started to say to me youve been to that gorgeous Greek island in the film havnt you? YES !YES! YES! and weve been telling you so for years! now do you believe us??? Blimmin Hollywood !
Bit worried really , dont want an invasion of Yanks coming , the place will end up like Mykonas, over- run with Boisterous American Kids who treat Europe like 'doing a theme park'.
That was the mistake we made this year , we tried Mykonos to see what all the fuss was about, my advice is this stick to Skiathos ', it was overpriced and overrun with very noisy people and beach bars that deafened you and not a patch on our beloved Skiathos.
So anyway as you have probaly noticed I can talk and talk , so if you want a chat I'm your gal.
Nice to meet you. |

Believe me Sunset addict, the last thing boistrous American kids are going to be able to afford in the coming year is a trip to Skiathos... _________________ "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

| Elle , you have made me happy too, but there were lots of American kids able to afford the trip to Mykonas in June this year whilst we were there, and believe me when I say that money was no object to the ones we enountered. I guess their parents thought it was worth the expense to have some peace and quiet at home for a while, LOL. |
