Lunch - Paradise Taverna at the end of Achaladies beach.

Lunch - Mesosogria at Ag Paraskevi (right by bus stop 16)

Evening - Twilight (down the steps to Megali Ammos beach) my personal favourite.

I just browsed my notes from the last 2 weeks. We ate lunch out of town on many days. Other then our traditional first lunch at Dino's, (€18.20), we ate at...

Twilight - which was okay (€21.20)
NoName - a quick gyros, usual stuff (€4.00)
Folia - awful (€22.50)
Portobello twice - once was brunch really, went in for the "eat as much as you like" full English breakfast which is served until 12:30, (€16) the other was just for sandwiches and beers (€16.50)
Mouragio - pretty good actually (€20.00)
Oddyseus - not bad. (€24.20)

Without a doubt, the "lunch of the trip" was, for the second year running - the taverna on Kanapitsa beach (€23).

Dinner, never hit the same place twice.

Mesogia, very good as usual (€31.60)
Alexandros, very good as usual (€29.00)
Limanaki, best dinner of the trip (€40.20)
"Flavours of Greece", (I think that is the English name - near the high school), very interesting, worth investigating, unusual menu, don't have a starter and main course if you are not really hungry as they are huge! (€37.40)
Selini, very nice (€32.80)
Plakes, wasn't overly impressed, but V liked it (€29.50)
Lenio, one of our "don't miss" always great (€28.40)
Hellenikon, food good but slow service this year (€40.00 - we chose an expensive wine)
Thessaloniki, okay (€30.50)
To Glifoneri, STIFADO BACK ON THE MENU!!!, good (€26.60)
The Crepe House, bloody awful (€9.00)
O'Batis, good as usual (€33.40)
Dionysos, food okay but expensive (€50.00 - don't be fooled, we paid for some of the other drinks here)
Stamatis, good as usual. (€24.50)

In short, almost everywhere is okay to good with a few exceptionally good places and a few really bad!

I'm assuming these prices are for two - and do they include drinks? We haven't been to Skiathos for three years but will be coming this year. My daughter has been looking at Trip Adviser and other review sites as she's thinking of booking for Skiathos this year and she's been scared off a bit by people saying how expensive food and drinks were in 2008. We too are now wondering just how much we will be spending.

Hope you can help
Penny

Some friends of ours got back from Lanzarote yesterday. They said the prices were extotiortionate, not helped by the pound / euro relationship.

£10 per main course & even worse........£5 for a pint Shocked

Wonder how Skiathos prices will compare in the coming year? How did our winter travellers such as Ian fare?

This is the reason why we have started looking elsewhere for this year , even outside the "eorozone " the rates are nowhere near as good but may offer better value for money .

I guess i was "lucky" i had a rate of €1.14 - £1, the day previous it was €1.17 - £1.00. Its now at parity.
The prices always seem to be reasonable in the winter, and i normaly budget around €12 each in the taverna for starter main and drinks ...

The € does not go as far as it used to, I remember when a can of Amstel was 100 Drachma on the beach Sad ...
Somewhere cheaper in 2009, not affected by the £ against the € / $ Iceland, Norway, South Africa ...
