This is why I call her my 'mermaid' boat.. this used to be painted on her bow... or hull.. whatever.... this was actually from 2003.

Here, Giorgos is telling Paul and I, over coffee on a cloudy day, all about 'Katarena'... I can't be sure now that that was her name... but she was the hard livin' woman who spent her later years known as a crazy woman around Skiathos - but in her day, she was a hero. She was a boat captain - who could sail through anything, fog, storms, night and of course there were no 'instruments' or GPS back then... in WW II (correct me if I am wrong) she saved a host of civilians and soldiers, by transporting civilions from Skiathos and surrounding islands to Pelion, and soldiers from Pelion to Turkey, when no one else could have hoped or dared to in the dark of night or the thickest fog. Giorgos was righteously p'd off that there was such a stink made about Papadiamantis, that there were plaques and statues dedicated to him when there had been a real hero in their midst that has been totally ignored... he was sure it was simply because she was a woman...
