The one thing that annoys me about a lot of tavernas in Skiathos (I know not all) CHIPS Why, why, why!!!! You can have chicken and chips, Stifardo and chips, Moussaka and chips, Kleftiko and chips, a meze with chips, Baklava and chips, chips and chips!!!!

The greeks make some of the tastiest potatoes I've ever had, you know the ones cooked in the oven with herbs, water, lemon and olive oil, not quite boiled, not quiet roasted, mmmm, mmmm. Especially when they're sometimes cooked with the meat, taste even better then.

So why CHIPS!!! Please calling all taverna owners, at least give us a choice!!

Only had those Greek potatoes once, at Alison's Apollon Taverna. Must say they were delicious & I'd prefer some of those at other places.

I also had a lamb dish at Alexandrias (think that's the name)...down the little side alley from the Chinese Restaurant in town. It was a bit like a bowl of scouse. Lovely stuff Very Happy

At home, we cook potatoes in all manner of ways in the oven and on the stove, but we never make chips. I am allowed to eat them on holiday though - so I kind of think of chips as "holiday food" thus have no problem with them. You don't have to eat them, and leaving them tells the owners something.

This is chips, as in elongated square sections of potato deep fried. Here, what are called "crisps" in England, (thin slices of potato deep fried), are called chips.

Possibly as chips keep easier in the freezer, and cook from frozen ...

I normally just ask for Oven potatoes instead of the chips and most times they oblige, having said that I have had chips and rice aswell, but chips have become more common in Greece recently,I remember when you got your meal and you had 4 or 5 chips placed around your meal, how times have changed, maybe they think its what we alll want

I love those oven potatoes that they do but have never thought of asking for them if they're not on the menu! Will do in future.

The best place we ever had chips was on Mandraki beach from the taverna there. We had beefburgers with them and having just walked from Troulos it was probably one of the best meals I have ever had. They were obviously not frozen, which is fairly common in most of the tavernas we visited.

Also tried their mash!!! Best avoided in my opinion. Laughing
