Personally I think that Hollywood coming to Skiathos will be a disaster. It will attract coach loads of lardy camera-hugging Yanks demanding chicken McNuggets- to add to the boat loads of Italians wielding pat ball bats and shouting about their hairstyles. Oh woe! August will become even more of a hell than it is now. When we get our first Burger King on the island, I'm off. You heard it here first .... _________________ Where is the Horse and the Rider?

I don't think 1-3 day's filming will damage Skiathos at all. Most (if not all) of Captain Corelli's Mandolin was filmed in Kefallonia and, apart from a mini-exhibition about the making of the film and the jetty that the film crew built and left to the island, things went on very much as normal, I believe. And Skiathos has already gone through the McDonalds experience, don't forget. I doubt Burger King would fare any better. |

| It won't make a blind bit of difference, and I suspect the film will be a load of tosh. All the producer is trying to do is capitalise on the fame of the stage show. |

Nope. Travlota was in the stage version too but had a minor part...it was still tosh.
By the way I should also add of my admiration of you for upping sticks and moving out. It gets hard to leave once the little uns are in the UK education system and can't speak Greek. I'm crossing off the days for the next four years...very bst of luck and when you reveal all I'm sure you will have a steady flow of visitors off here to put some Euros in your till! |

We just got back yesterday, unfortunately we saw nothing. During the day we were on the beach went into Skiathos town in the evenings but no one around by then. Great to see your photo's - I'm so jealous, I can't believe we were there but saw no-one. Certainly don't see it spoiling Skiathos everything was the same as usual, beautiful. _________________ Ooh ... can't wait to feel the sand in my toes |

I was there watching Colin Firth in the Taxi in town. It was all very exciting for the holiday makers and the locals, which in my eyes is nothing but good. It was all very organised and they only used as little amount of time as possible.
I also went out for evening meals in town the following nights and there were many Americans there ordering very good GREEK food, so that was good too. No?
The filming did nothing but put a buzz on the island.
PS. I've been back in UK for 1 day and wish I was there instead. |

I thought the whole thing was great, even the locals got involved in a big way, plenty of the extras were Greek ladies & gents of a certain age & despite being out on a boat for 3hours in the blazing sun doing take after take they where in really high spirits! The port was buzzing, the actors where charming and hey, if a few more people discover this beautiful island as a result of seeing the film then they will recieve a great big warm welcome from everybody here! _________________ για μας; |

Our landlady Koula said that it was all great fun, the crew were all polite, wonderful people who left lots of euro on the island and utilized a lot of locals... now they're off to Skopelos.
Our experience her of film crews is just as Koula said - we live in N. California, a beautiful area (no all of CA is not Los Angeles... or McDonalds... OR Burger King...) that has been chosen as location for several films and the crews are always a delight. Polite, intelligent, interesting and always they are sure to contribute greatly to the local economy by eating in the restaurants, shopping in our stores and small markets, staying in our hotels and B and B's, and paying residents to be extras.
I guess I can be OK with SOME new folks discovering Skiathos because of the movie... as long as the locals benefited. Does anyone know what local boats were used in the water scenes?
I am sorry we missed the fun... _________________ "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

Hi Elle !
A friend of mine Alexandros lives on Skiathos. He was in the mowie and his fishing boat aswell:-)) for 3 days of filming . Got well payed to.
His boat is a typical beutiful Skiathan fishingboat 45 years old.
I was there 1 week ago ,and it was so funny to see all the preparations in the old port and at the clock tower.
Looking forward seeing the mowie next year with many familiar faces!

Just to put you all at ease, they filmed some of the movie YANKS with Richard Gere in Stalybridge and I don't remember it having an adverse affect on tourism. In fact he said it was the worst place he'd been to in his life.
