I would love to move to Skiathos one day but will always keep home as here in the UK a holiday is great but to live there all year round is a different story. I speak Greek and have lots of relatives in mainland Greece but would still have reservations regarding how we would be accepted by the locals long term and what long term prospects there were for my 2 kids and husband (both of them would pack and move tomorrow!! aged 9 and 13!) My aunt has lived in Athens for 54 years, speaks fluent Greek and they still answer to her in English and refer to her as 'the english lady'! Good luck though to anyone who does take the plunge...over many years in Skiathos I have heard good and bad stories regarding relocation... will join you all one day when the children have left home i hope _________________ angela |

Cant live with computers ......cant live without them!!
Had tons of trouble with a virus! Sorry not to have responded beena nightmare
Cant' believe the interest this thread generated though after finally logging on this evening...eventually after god knows how long. Its taken me ages to read the replies. Grey skies, dark mornings, dreary weekends ohhh skiathos!! My grandma said there is only one life so live it! My sons are all for us uprooting and leaving the country! I understand the hesitancy that manyof you show but I also understand the points of view made! I dont think it will be in the next 2-3 years but I reckon that this country is not getting any better and the med is the place to be!
Cyprus? well I have been and can say that it would probably be a great place to live, the infrastructure is there and ready for us longing brits, but there is something missing there. Do you know what I mean. Maybe its the romantic in me which is longing for blue skies on a winters morning (i guess not every morning in skiathos has blue skies, through the winter) but surely the climate is better than this greyness which hangs over me like a cloak around my head. We could do something my hubby and I, anything! fortunately my hubby has a reasonable pension from years fighting for our country in the forces so even working as a waitress in a cocktail bar!! would be fine for me!! I think this forum has been fantastic in this thread and i have had a great evening reading all the responses, although some a little of key!! Its up for debate though still, some for the plunge and others more hesitant, but its a good job we don't all want to sell up and leave else there may not be many of us left here!!
Anyway, cheers to all who replied and look forward to (hopefully, if computer is playing properly again, touch wood etc etc) reading further responses!! |

Perleeese, enough with the holier than thou attitude, it's life it happens and so what if it's a holiday forum ? |
