Elle - the subject of 'Mal de Mer has appeared here before and both Ian and myself agreed that a preparation called Stugeron was a favourite among yachtsmen who hadn't quite got their 'sea legs'. The product was being researched by two doctors for a totally different malady. They just
happened to be part-time yachtsmen and their wives often complained that galley duties made them uncomfortable when things got a bit 'bumpy'.
With nothing to lose they gave Stugeron a shot and were delighted with the result. The story reached the yachting press and the rest is history.
For years my wife wouldn't board my boat or even the ferry without swallowing a Stugeron which, is readily available without prescription
at pharmacies. (at this point I must state that Mrs J. is one of those
people who become sea-sick while standing on a bridge over a river !) |

A friend of mine used to suffer badly, so much so that he would not go on a boat at all. We arranged a social event with the wives just before christmas to Calais. Naturally his wife really wanted to go, and so did he but there was the small matter of the ferry ...
I told him about the Stugeron tablets, and it persuaded him (Or was it the car load of booze?) to give it one last try.
Dover docks at 8am and he looked really ill - only we were in the car park. Well somehow we got him up the ramp and on to the boat. We made it over to France, without issue and the colour was back in his face.
The return trip was hell, we were stuck outside Dover unable to dock for two hours due to a howling gale. He was fine and at one time he was in duty free with all the bottles on the move and falling off the shelves with people being unwell and he did not have a problem at all.
He swears by the tablets from that day to this ... _________________

HI darrell
Still think Venice is best..saves a couple of hours drive, tolls etc and more importantly having to leave you car overnight anywhere in Italy..Roy and Marge got cleared out when they tried. Only another few hours on the ferry, exactly the same price and as Elle says, they dont rock and roll..more like cruise liners..internet access, disco etc. |

Stugeron... I will look for it here, though I am sure - since it actually WORKS - we won't be likely to find it in our pharmacies! Sad but true.
Would I find it at Heathrow or Gatwick, as we pass through? Thank you, John...
We have Dramamine and Bonomine pills, here, available over the counter, though they put me so far 'out of it' that I would miss any dolphin or whale that might pass by and then.. what's the point?
The Channel Islands...we have our own, here on the West Coast of the US... Catalina being one of them. They are about 26 miles from Los Angeles and are a favorite destination of cold water scuba divers and whale watchers. _________________ "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

Jon,
just looked at venice-Patras and I might go for it.It means I can overnight just once, just got to work out where as the journey is 935 miles but the ferry leaves at 2.30pm.I would like to do it with just one night in a hotel.I wonder what mileage I could do on the first day if I leave London around 5am.
Any ideas? _________________ www.perigiali-skiathos.com

| Coming back from Venice to Amsterdam, I did 600km. the first day, 800k the second, just me driving, in the camper van, max 120kph. If you come across to Holland, you should be well around Munich before you have to stop and an early start the next morning should get you there on time. Check-in is quick at Venice too. You have the choice of Minoan and Anek but check dates thoroughly on internet and follow up with phone call to VENICE agents as well. |
