Hi Guys
Have now got a bit more time on my hands so I thought I would let you know what we have been up to.
Our house is looking more homely. We bought a washing machine today so I can plumb it in later. We will buy some rugd from Volos soon,we have set up all the surround sound and all the rest of our hi-fi.Our flat screen works perfectly out here but obviously all the channels are in Greek. There is the Euro news in English but it gets a bit boring with it's rotating bulletins. We live down a little lane just behind the Stellina. They are doing a load of work there so if anyone is staying there they are in for a nice surprise.
Sophia is settling in well and chases around after all the older kids.Chrissa from the Hermes has got us all the forms for the kindergarten so hopefully she can start in April. We bought her a little ugly bug-eyed fish the other day and she has called it Lilly.

We have settled down into a nice routine consisting of having a coffee down in the old port early afternoon, checking e-mails or attending to any work then having our dinner at home and then having a couple beers in town at about 6.30pm then walking home and putting Sophia to bed. Then it is usually dvd time with a film rented from a place in town.
Up until last Tue the weather was glorious, sitting at the port was fab.Last Sunday we bumped into Ian and Chris on a flying visit sitting outside Goldfish having a beer.He couldn't believe the sunshine.

Since then is has been all rain and wind so it has put the breaks on our little walks into town. There is talk of snow so we have topped up our firewood stock just in case.Hopefully it will get better soon.

Claire went out to Bakaliko the other night with all the "Skiathos ladies",she said it was nice to get out and enjoy some female company.

Business-wise bookings are good with plenty of deposits coming in.We got our tourist licence the other day.We also got the little plastic plaque that some of you may have seen on the outside of some properties.Sorting out the bar licence is tricky but it should all be sorted soon.

We have visited loads of beaches on our little drives, they are all very windswept in the winter. There is a load of work going on at the Alkyon,I also scratched my car reversing into a stupid plant pot that had been left outside!!.There is also loads of work going on everywhere else.Sophia loves watching all the diggers. The old post office in town has been knocked down and they have had the road up in Kouk for a few weeks.

Anyway folks I must fly as Tolis from the tennis club and one of his birds are coming around later for a Wii session.

Ah, so now when I'm directing newbies around, instead of saying behind/next to/opposite what used to be the post office, I must say behind/next to/opposite where the old post office used to be before they knocked it down.

I like to be helpful.

Good to hear Sophia is settling in well, that must be a load off your mind. Is she old enough to understand that she lives there now?

I think there'll be a lot of members envying you your daily routine.

Is the Stellina being updated? Last year in May the front building was gutted completely. What are they doing at the Alkyon besides the bathrooms, if it's major work do you reckon it will be up and running by May?

I'll leave you to explain to Suejet about Tolis and one of his birds!

Best wishes to you all.

Hi folks
Thanks for the comments.
Sophia's goldfish died this morning,we told her it was asleep so now I have to leg it up to the shop to find a replacement.

Re the work at the Stellina. If you look at the hotel from the road it appears they are working on the block to the right,it runs parralell to the road that leads to my house.

Re the work to the Alkyon. They are doing all the bathrooms in the front bedrooms, all granite and back to the wall loos.It will look very nice. They have also re-fitted the grotty toilets in the basement with new showers, granite etc etc. They are replacing the bannisters up the main staircase with glass panels, probably a safety exercise.

If we get the correct permission for our bar it will be open to all.If we cannot get planning consent to build it,we will use one of the studios as the kitchen and have a waitress service to the tables on the terrace.

Chris,we haven't got a postal address yet but will do soon.

Till next time.

Clare's story so far....

The last 2 weeks have been superb weather, I have a better top tan now than I have ever had.
The festival was really good on the children's day, but sadly the adult one a week later was a case of blink and you miss it.
Sophia has now many friends to play with and is picking up Greek better than we are. She will be starting kindergarden at the beginning of May. When we are not painting the studio's we take her down the beach, but she is the only one who wants to go into the water - its too cold for us!
She is also loving having nanny and grandad to play with - giving us a bit of a break.

I am finding cooking a bit of a pain out here though, as there is not too much to chose from. You get lamb, beef, chicken, pork and lovely greek sausage (and for some rabbit) but you have to do everything from scratch, and the sauces you buy are quite expensive and you have to shop nearly every day (not like your once a week visit to Tesco). As all greek ovens, our takes an eternity to cook anything, its about as good as greek timekeeping.

But life here is very good, and right now I am sitting in my garden on the laptop with my feet up in shorts and T-shirt with a G & T writting this and would not change it for anything!!!!!

Uncle Michael is coming out for the season tomorrow so am going to try and cook a kleftico and on sunday they are having a motor bike rally on one of the beaches near Trulos so we will all be going to that. Not sure what time it starts, depends on who you speek to.

Well must go cause I need to refill my G & T!

Great update !

I have to say cooking is one of the things I've been worried about - because I can't cook! But I'm going to learn... I keep watching My Greek Kitchen on satellite for some tips...

And to say I won't miss Tesco's is an understatement!! It's gotta be better picking up fresh meat/veg etc rather than the pasty looking, shrinkwrapped dubious fodder that comes from our stores.

3 weeks and counting! Starting to get very scared and very excited all at once.

Bee.
