Hi everyone
I'm Stacey and I've just booked a week in Skiathos with my partner James for 10-17 Sept, staying at the Villa Rosa Apartments in Troulos.
We finally decided on Skiathos for our holidays this year after much deliberation (how many Greek islands and resorts are there to choose from?!) We decided on Skiathos as neither of us are driving yet so thought the bus service would be great for exploring the many beaches and the town looks lovely aswell. We have been to Alvor in Portugal for three years running and loved the quietness, food and beach there but decided it was time for a change and this is our first time in Greece.
Have read really good reviews about Villa Rosa and Troulos seems to be a nice base with regards to the beach and a few Tavernas for nights we don't want to head into town - would love to hear anyone's experiences.
From what we have read we are generally just looking forward to exploring the beaches and town, but the dog shelter looks worth a visit for a change and also the airport to watch the take-offs and landings.
I have read that there's a man who does walks on a Sunday, any info on this? Also will the weather be ok for this time in Sept? And are there water taxis from Troulos?
Thanks in advance for any info and advice

Welcome to the board. You have made a great choice in Skiathos it's only a small island and one you're sure to fall in love with.
The weather is September is generally very good still hot and the sea will be warm too, you will be spoiled for choice for beaches. There isn't a water taxi from Troulos but the bus service is about every 15 minutes.
The dog sanctuary is up in hills behind Troulos and is well worth a visit you can chose a dog to take for a walk and if you leave a small donation Helen will be grateful.
I think the name of the man who does walks around the town is Vasilis, there are usually posters on the kiosks down by the harbour with details and times. Don't miss a visit into town one night for a meal and drink and soak up the lovely atmosphere.
You might well become a boomeranger. Hope you enjoy it, have fun. |

| Hi, things to do when visiting skiathos for first time. visit town early evening for drink in one of local bars. catch bus to stop 25 walk up road to agia eleni beach to watch the sun set, oh dont forget camera. catch bus to stop no 12 and walk one of the best walks on the island round the kalamaki perninsula ok spelling not good i know.. it takes about 1 hour ,if hot weather then dont forget plenty of water, you come out at bus stop 13. you must take a boat ride round the island as i think the beaches on the north side of the island are by far the best, and lalaria can only be visited by boat. Go to port end of runway, best on a friday as many planes arrive and prepare to duck, your heart will pump faster believe me. if poss take trip with tour comp over to mainland and visit meteora, see photo page, wow. cost is around 100 euro long day but unlike visiting athens its worth every penny. if you like walking as sounds the case then you can do many walks around the island for free like the dogs home, those dogs really do look forward to your visit and they dont get lost often, only kidding helen. walk through the woods to ellias beach. thats it for now as i could go on for ever, like were to snorkel to eat to totally relax etc.. tel |
