Hi all,
I went to a press screening of the film on Monday and was at the press conferences with the stars - it was great fun!
Skiathos and Skopelos are very well presented in the film - we got back from our holiday 2 weeks ago, and seeing Skiathos Town's port made me wish we were back out there again!
You can see what Meryl Streep said about the area in this article:

I'll be writing more over the next week.
Wish I could be in Skiathos for when the film premiere's there, I bet it will be a great atmosphere!

"sure to put Skiathos firmly on the map..."
<groan>.
I want my little island all to myself... well, and to you guys.
But no one else...
and I don't want to see it become a caricature of itself... 'girls gone wild' and lifestyles of the stoned and debauched... you know.
sigh...
fingers crossed, hoping for the best and can't WAIT to see the film!!!!!! We have to wait until Thursday here in the wilds of northern california... where there are still 1800 wildfires raging, the temps are topping 100 this week and after 2 days of glorious clear blue skies, the smoke is going to smother us again... the movie will be like a bit of a holiday!

Release date in Newcastle is tomorrow(Thursday).
Reservations made for Saturday night at 20.00hrs. Thought we'd do something just a little different to mark the occasion, so................
Have invited a couple of guests to the house for early dinner.
A fairly simple menu as follows:
Tsatsziki and stuffed vine leaves.........Stifado with oven potatoes, onions, Greek salad and gigantes.......then yogurt with honey and walnuts to finish. We'll wash it all down with something suitable!!!!
Well that should be a good start..........hope I don't fall asleep in the film!!!

Suejet, you're welcome anytime............We'll just throw a few extra "tatties" in the pot!!!
Anyway how sad am I.........Went food shopping today for the weeks groceries and came back with what?????????
Anyone who answered "the film soundtrack to Mamma Mia the Movie" guessed correctly and gets invited next time we throw a Greek bash. Have found a place where I can buy beautiful lamb shanks...........so Kleftiko will definitely be on the menu!!! _________________ Cheers,

Got back from Skiathos last night went to see Mama Mia the second night of showing 4th July, what a fantastic atmosphere it was in the open air cinema everyone was singing waving their hands and really getting a buzz out of being there. Thoroughly enjoyed it, hilarious in parts although the cast are not the best singers!!!!!!. Will probably go again this week and see it on a big screen with better sound. The only downside side to the evening was that about 30 mins to the end it started to rain we were lucky as we had a canopy over us, but did it bother anyone? not at all it only added to the atmosphere. _________________ Karen&Phil

Well what can I say............We've had an absolutely great night ..............food was super and the film, well it hit the right spot too.
In fact I cannot remember the last time a film that I was at got such a great ovation at the end with a marvellous and spontaneous round of applause, including foot stomping.
Well done to everyone associated with the film, it was real enjoyable entertainment.
On a personal note, I now have forgiven Meryl Streep for what she did to Dustin Hoffman in Kramer V Kramer She was an absolute star!!!
Have just finished listening to the Soundtrack again and am in serious danger of a red card if I continue with the number of times I've played it.
If you've not seen it yet, I suggest you make plans to fill the void in your life and get there!!!!!!! _________________ Cheers,

I second that Swinjohn.
We went last night and it was the best film i have seen in a while. Very funny and some times cringe making but good. _________________ Take a good look around it might not be there next time |
