Got back last Friday after two fantastic weeks. We stayed in Achladies and felt we had picked the best resort for location as it was so close to Skiathos town while being a quiet base for us. I admit it wasn't the best beach but hey it was sand all the way in to the sea and didn't get too crowded.
We went on the bus to different beaches, hired a jeep to visit the beaches on the north side, had a meal at the windmill (Friends silver wedding anniversary) had a couple of hours at the airport one day (it was brilliant) watching the planes and almost touching them ha ha.
Catching the water taxi to town most evenings and coming back to the yalis and having a drink at the bar with Nikos who is great.
We tried quite a few tavernas but need to go back to try more!!!
We could have easily had another week as we wasn't ready to come home.
Skiathos is a very beautiful island and if you just want a chill out beach holiday it, in my opinion is hard to beat.
Anyway I'm off to see Mama Mia on Friday to get a Skiathos fix. |

Glad you enjoyed Achladies Debstgr. We are going to "Filokalia" on the 18th July for the 3rd time. Can't wait. Which restaurants did you go to?

I wanted to go, but wasn't invited.

Hi Mike, In Achladies we had good meals at all the tavernas but really liked the Perigali (not sure how its spelt but its something like that) I think thats the blue taverna you mentioned Gary and the Rose garden where they did greek potatoes for us. In Skiathos town the food at the windmill was fabulous but we only went there for that special occasion, it wouldn't be a regular because it was a bit pricey for us. We paid 250 euro for four of us but we did have Moet at 80euro, well you don't celebrate 25yrs of happy marriage everyday (it wasn't mine ha ha).
Out of all the tavernas we ate at in Skiathos town I would say my 1st choice would be the Asprolithos (recommended by Mrs Whicker thank you) which was very good. Also a typical greek taverna we found in one of the winding streets was Varthalamis (i think) it was very cheap but very good greek food.
Anyway like I said before we really need to go back to try some of the others. Does anyone know out of interest how many tavernas there are in Skiathos town? |

Hi Debstgr
You'll be hooked like me - Achaldies was where we first stayed - actually 14 years ago this week I was there for the first time and I'm still totally smitten, there's nowhere else like it.
I'm intrigued by your last statement, I asked the same question last week - so I'm off to the taverna's topic to start a list. _________________ you heard it here first - BOJAN! |

Hi Deb, so pleased you enjoyed your hols and the Silver Wedding celebrations.
Seems like you will need to book a long-stay to cover the good food guide but luckily no matter how long you stay there will always be another taverna just around the corner that you haven't yet tried, it's a bit of chore but one that must be endured - with a shrug and a smile.
