Hi,
I’ve read all yr postings concerning yr first visit.
I’ve got to say it’s all a matter of opinion, but i definitely disagree with most of the recommendations.
id like to point out that yr very lucky with yr choice of accommodation as i think you will like princes house, it has many return visitors , very near to town, busses, next door to the biggest market: asteras, and a 5 min walk to the strip. Beautiful pool, very relaxed atmosphere,
Quiet and tranquil, haris the owner a nice person.
As well you are very lucky with yr final decision to spend yr time in skiathos instead of visiting 2 islands.
You see you will come on a very difficult time, right at the peak of high season.
There are posts here that explain it all.
Both islands are full full full.
The ferries don’t have extra room and often one traveler that don’t understand this is left stranded for 1-2 days before he can find a return ticket.
Often one has to book for trips 1 week before as all are sold out.
Skopelos at these crazy times is a nightmare.
It is a favorite destination for Greek families with kids (since accommodation there is cheaper than skiathos)
ON SKIATHOS WE HAVE MORE THAN 70 BEACHES!
On skopelos perhaps 4-5
Also a traveler needs 3-4 days to feel comfortable, understand the surroundings, and learn his way around.
Perhaps I’m getting too old, but i think the purpose of a vacation is for a little relax as well.
This packing all yr staff and move in a week to a new location sounds a bit too much hard work in the heat..........
A smart traveler, will understand that at peak season he must avoid the busses during peak hrs (feel like a sardine in a can)
Will not try to get the bus back from the middle of the island as one will be standing in the hot sun for hrs while the busses pass full and don’t stop, as well as the taxis.
He will prebook his trips after checking with the weather (winds in particular)
i recommend the organized trip that visits the other 2 islands(stops for an hr at skopelos) and stops at allonisos(small fisherman’s, not very spoilt island very different to skiathos- volcanic grounds, not green like the other 2, i like it very much),also stops for a swim and lunch, and perhaps you’ll see dauphines, but don’t just go to the front cause they’ll tell you its fully booked........
tavern’s as well are very busy, so if one wants to eat at the popular places like Marias, or alexandros, sor i cant mention another 250 great ones here, then one must act again smart or wait and wait.
I f I got you worried , now just remember that in august the sea is very warm, we often go for night swims, its great for people watching( many Greeks and Italians),very colorful, and if one take in mind these little details he will be hooked. |

here here!! Although the Island is beautiful any time of the year we do tend to try and avoid the month of august for the reasons skiathos lad said busy busy busy. Our first ever holiday to skiathos was middle of august and we fell in love but after making friends with bar owners etc they explained why it was so busy. We are sure you will fall in love also just be prepared for a lot of colourful italians.
Enjoy your stay

i agree the beginning of august is very busy,
but after the 15th it cooles down again clubs start to look empty
you see less people on the streets you can really feel the season running to an end and i love it because then you feel like its time for you to go home aswel an prepare yourself for the next trip |

skiathos lad thanks & have answered your pm.
Luckily i dont mind busy busy busy or colourful italians as it is also a favourite place of mine to visit.
Thank you for all your advice & I will visit you whilst on holiday as i have heard you do very nice food too.
I would also just like to say how good this site is. Everyone is so friendly & helpful & you feel as if you have lots of friends before you even arrive in Skiathos.
See I have the bug before I have even been.

hello michelle
I think you'll find most of the restraunts & bars are good just some are more expensive than others but all in all the food always seems to be great wherever you go (we,ve never had a bad meal yet). A couple of our favourites are Nicos on the main street & the Asprolothis at the top of the main street then turn left & its about 50 yards on the right, both are really good value for money. By the way the main street is called Papadimantis street.
As for bars give Benbows & the kasbar a try both next door to each other in the backstreets easy to find, or you could just sit in one of the tavernas on Papadimantis street and watch the world go by. either way there will always be someone wanting to talk to you.
Anyway have a great time while you're there, we're going back in september for the 7th time in 3 years & I did'nt think I would ever go anywhere twice so that might tell you something about SKIATHOS, I'm sure you'll love it.
Cheers
