Will you be attending Neilson Road to watch the Gateshead v Buxton Play-Off game today? I hear Gazza is planning to be there. Hugest game in your history? |

DEFEAT AT GATESHEAD IN PLAY-OFF FINAL
Gateshead earned promotion to the Blue Square North with a 2-0 victory over the Bucks on Saturday afternoon in the UniBond play-off final. The teams went in level at the break but second half strikes from Kris Gate and Paul Brayson beat a spirited Buxton side who have had a tremendous season despite this result.

I spoke with the Buxton chairman this morning to congratulate and commiserate with all those involved in beating Witton, probably the favourites to gain promotion with Fleetwood, in the semi-final and in being defeated by Gateshead in the final (many were expecting a drubbing, Gateshead having beaten the Bucks 4 - 0 and 5 - 0 in league games during the season)
"Commiserate, NO!" was his reply! I think he had heaved a sigh of relief believing a third successive promotion from the Northern Counties East League to Unibond Division One and on to the Premier Division then to the Conference North would have been too much too soon! Unlike Kevin Heaney he is not a multi-millionnaire but a retired history teacher. Buxton have raised every penny they spend through sponsorship and fund raising.
IF they can compete as they have done this season,
next
term, then they may have the set up to achieve their (and my) dream of taking BFC to the highest level they have ever played at.
Now where have I heard that before!? |

Full credit to them for their exertions, and sorry you fell at the final hurdle, however as the chairman says maybe it should be viewed with a touch of relief. Just hope the chance presents itself again and if it happens they are on a better financial footing to embrace the challenge. |

Redcar, heh? General area then! Gazza Gascoigne failed to make the game too - busy causing staff concerns in some hotel. That knocked two off the otherwise bumper gate, if we don't include Gazza's demons |
