New Manager Announced  Reply with quote

As had been widely tipped Sean McCarthy was introduced at last night's Players Presentation Dinner by Kevin Heaney as the new Truro City First Team Manager.
Sean McCarthy had rushed down to Cornwall for the Presentation after watching the FA Cup Final at Wembley - perhaps he was checking out some possible acquisitions!?

This has to be the worst kept secret for quite some time !!! lmfao. Is it any coincidence that McCarthy was seen at Willand when City visited earlier in the season ????

Hmm! Doesn't quite fit in with the doom and gloom rumour on the Cornish Soccer Forum! How much is a season ticket?

Far from it Tom very positive from the management though there are lots of things that need to be addressed vastly to improve the smooth day to day running all is well and set up for the season.
Season tickets I hope there will be some news by the end of the week a request has been made and just awaiting a reply.

He'll doubtless be allowed time off for 40 winks (occasionally).

but where?  Reply with quote

Is there a "sport" link on that page somewhere? Can anyone post a link to the interview itself? I know there was going to be a radio interview -- is there a way to hear that?

Thanks for any help.

Truro City have given former Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City striker Sean McCarthy the task of taking charge of Cornwall's most ambitious football team.

The 40-year-old Welshman was confirmed as manager of Truro, newly promoted to the British Gas Business Southern League, on Saturday evening. He replaces Dave Leonard, who resigned shortly before the White Tigers sealed the Toolstation Western League Premier Division title this season.

With the benefit of very generous funding from Truro-based property developer Kevin Heaney, City have won three consecutive promotions to advance from the Carlsberg South Western League to the Southern League, and they also lifted the FA Vase at Wembley last year. McCarthy's mission, in what is his first managerial position in senior football, is to maintain the Treyew Road team's rise up the non-League football pyramid.

McCarthy finished his playing career with the Grecians after two spells with the Pilgrims, and he also played for Swansea City, Bradford City, Oldham Athletic (for whom he appeared in the Premier League) plus Bristol City. He has gained coaching experience with Argyle's youth teams and with Manstow, a Devon junior club.

McCarthy will be assisted at Treyew Road by first-team coach Dave Newton, a former Truro manager, and ex-Argyle physiotherapist Ian Leigh. "I'm looking forward to it," McCarthy told the Western Morning News yesterday. "It's something I've thought of for the last four or five years.

"I've watched how people like Paul Sturrock and Tony Pulis have done their jobs at Argyle. I feel I'm ready for the challenge of going into management, and there's a lot of ambition at Truro.

"The chairman [Heaney] has mapped out what he wants to do, and there are some very good players at Truro. They're a young side, and I know four or five of them from when I was at Argyle. I'll be looking to add a couple of players with a little bit of experience, possibly."

Leonard's departure coincided with Heaney's announcement that plans to run a full-time playing squad at City next season had been dropped. Asked if he had been given assurances that budget promises would be kept, McCarthy replied: "The chairman has assured me that the club want to go forward, and that will do for me. We've got to take things one step at a time."

If there's also an ex-Argyle physio coming down, does that spell the end for Carl? Hope not.

A very good point TruroBoy and one worth asking about, currently Ian Leigh has been looking after the players when there out for a while through injury along side Carl.
This will continue as Ian can't do every Saturday he is also a top class fitness coach and he will be working with the team this season, so far from there being any cut backs were expanding our back room staff.
