Trevenson 2, Truro City 3
City march on in the Devon & Cornwall Cup!
However when referee Mark Carter blew the final whistle there was a huge sigh of relief as City came very close to throwing away a three goal lead.
With play end to end in the early stages, City came closest to scoring early on through wide right midfielder Keith Cotterill and it was only deserved that it was the same player who opened the scoring midway through the first half. A corner from the left by Martin Cleverly missed everyone apart from the alert Cotterill who’s diving header found the right hand bottom corner of the net.
Minutes later Cleverly had doubled City’s lead, reacting with “cat-like” reactions to volley home a loose ball after the home side’s ‘keeper failed to hold an attempt on goal.
At the other end, Walter hadn’t really been too troubled and when not long
after the interval player/manager Howard Stokes scored City’s third after good work by central midfielder Bill Ross, the tie looked all over.
However Trevenson forced City back and even though Walter pulled out a great penalty save, the home side still scored twice to make the final ten minutes or so a little nervous for City.
It was a relieved but very quite away changing room after the match!
Hayle now await City in the semi-final.
