Barring injuries, Vaughan will not get in the first team with Chappers and Stevo. Also Gosling is getting on a bit and prehaps the South Western League will suit him for a couple of seasons before retirement! As for Vercesi, he has been an inspirational substitute for the first team this year but I do not think he'll get a start next season. |

Why stay and play reserve team football? a few will follow Mr Mewton to Penzance, a few may be fed up with the whole situation
The reserves lets not forget are in their own competitive league amongst first teams, I have heard that a few aren't happy to be left out for first teamers who are in need of a game!

Vaughan has already gone, as far as I'm aware.
Gossy has had an attractive offer from Perranporth (on his doorstep) to be player/manager next season, but his clothing business is taking up more & more of his time. Part time may be beneficial to him, and he can still teach our other wide men a thing or two about crossing the ball!
Cheesy also has a busy working life with his property business, so a part time role may also be beneficial. I was one of his doubters early season, but he's proved me (and a lot of others) wrong over the last few months. He's definitely a heavy ground player and has scored many crucial goals for us.
Not sure about Tolls - I'd be really disappointed if he was released. To come back after injury and score after 10 minutes last weekend says everything about him. Definitely as good as Yetts & Watto on his day. |

The regulars in the reserves need to realise that when a new player signs for the first team, a peripheral player for the first team will join the reserves. This how things work in football. As long as the reserves keep winning, what are they moaning about. If they want regular football, why don't they join the third team. This is how the club develops. |

No, I haven't played at that level but surely if you are unhappy about not getting games you do one of two things: If you think you're good enough to play, you stay and fight for an oportunity to show it or if you secretly know you're not good enough for that level, you leave. I have played in the Falmouth/Helston D1 and know what it's like to not get a run in the team but I knew I was good enough and eventually the manager saw it. |

how many of the second teamers got a hint at first team football this year? There have been a few that have filled in on the bench, or started the season with first team (Skinner, Harris) and then dropped down, but performances never really counted, same went for last season, when instead of using second teamers, they went out and signed players from other teams (Darren Gilbert).
For the St Day game last night, the club have called up some of the lads from the 3rd team to give them a run out, the league is in the bag, the core of the side would have remained the same, and it would have given some of those players great hope. Ie: Sims, Penrose and Peters
With no disrespect to the third team players, but what has been their baring on Truro City FC this year? have they felt part of the club?

Gosling will be at City next season but Vercesi and Vaughen won't be from what I have heard, there will be the odd one or two that will go to Penzance but the reserves will have a very strong line up and will be competing for the championship.

Crouchy, sorry mate but you haven't got a scooby. If we keep letting first-teamers get games under their belt in the reserves then the regular players in the reserves will leave. Regardless of the fact that they are part of something special, I'm sure that means very little when you're not playing. The reserve team needs to be stabilised next season or players will leave. |

Dan great post and very true next season the first team can have five on the bench which will stop the nightmare of having to pick just three, there are some very good younger players there and with the odd older head in the rank they will do well.

I'm sure the regulars would be happy to give up their place in the team for the likes of Stamp, Chapman, Tolley etc. I'm sure they realise its for the good of the club and know they will get their chance if they are good enough. How can any reserve team be stable, the first team call the shots at every club. |

Crouchy, have you ever played for a reserve team at Combo level? From your naive comments I would guess not. I accept that the occassional first-team player plays at reserve level at every club when recovering from injury etc but I think that Truro have played too many first team players in the reserves this season. I believe that if they continue to do this next season then we will lose the core of the reserve team. Then we would have to rely on the first team players to cover, putting more pressure on those players. We need cover in the first team but we need to make sure that this cover isn't being used in the reserve team because it will be detromental to the club. |

Not to mention the fact that just banging a first-teamer into the reserves will not automatically produce results! I was at St. Day on Thursday night to watch the reserves (cracking clubhouse, by the way ]) Stampy started, had an absolute 'mare, Trevor pulled him off, Rusty came on and looked like a world beater!! 2 good goals and won the match for us! |

You obviously have no idea about this subject you need a hard core group of reserve players, including in this there will be times when 1st team regulars need a run out after injury or a promising third team player may well be worth a run in the side.
If as initial reports are true the 1st team squad will consist of 18 contracted players 15 will be required every game the three that miss out may well have to cover for injuries or suspensions.
The Reserves will need a well established squad and I'm sure plans are in place or will be when the new appointment is made as manager, changeing the dynamics week in week out will not help this and we could loose some very good players. |

jackfrost, next season the Southern League allows 5 subs so a named squad of 16 plus the other 2 as emergency cover will probably mean the 18 contracted players will be on 1st team duty week in, week out. Obviously any players returning from injury could a run out in the reserves - that's the way at every club, isn't it? |

Perhaps someone could answer this.
Am I right or wrong in thinking that next season although five subs will be on the bench, only three will be allowed to play.
I think it is any three from five. |
