Are the fellas in Iron Maiden hammers supporters? I'd always assumed that "up the Irons" was just a reference to the band's name -- but is it also refering to the claret and blue? _________________ UP to the South! |

.....................and the Ironsides were/are Newport County, and, of course, Oliver Cromwell's troops. |

So how is the quiz team doing these days, oh Trivia Deity?
I asked because somewhere (?) I saw a Hammers fan's avatar that said "up the Irons." Idle curiosity.
Thought Cromwell's was the New Model Army? _________________ UP to the South! |

The Hammers are sometimes known as 'The Irons' because in their previous life they were in fact called 'Thames Ironworks.' |

Oh my God!
George Bush has already asked if they were available for Iraq. |

They (Ironsides) were his cavalry. (A top bunch of soldiers on horses, the heavily armoured tank of the day.) and the bunch of farmers he moulded into a new regiment. The New Model Army came later when he sought permission from parliament to bring about a professional army.
He probably had an idea about an air force as well but was a few years too premature in his thinking. |
