| Just How Good Is The Southern League? |

greetings to one and all from france. This is the first time I have posted on this forum although I have been following citys progress from afar for several seasons.
I just wondered how much higher the standard of football played in southern league I is, compared to the western premier league, and is a further promotion at the first attempt a realistic expectation from us supporters? |

I've never seen a match (  ), but from what I've read and the comments of others around here, it seems like there is a bigger step between the Western League and the Southern than there was when City moved up to the Western.
The Southern League seems to be more physical, and the match travel will be a factor, especially now that the side will not be full-time.
A fourth consecutive promotion would have been optimistic, but within the imaginable. Now it may be more likely that we'll spend two or three years before moving on up -- which we'll surely do!

If I were a Truro fan I would be wandering whats going to happen in the next 2 or 3 months before thinking about the next 2 or 3 years!!
STABILITY is what is needed at first

Not all DARREN'S comments are negative, here he has a point, there has to be a concern about the new Manager, until that is resolved there has to a period of concern, also the quality of the new signings when they materialise.
With the RIGHT man at the helm there is no reason why Truro City could not secure a top half table position at the end of next season.
All will be well with Truro City when August comes.
THERE IS NO TRUTH IN THE RUMOUR that London Area based Southern League clubs have applied to play in the French Leagues because they are nearer than travelling down to Cornwall.

there seems to be a bigger jump between south west league one and south west premier looking at the teams.
certainly the players will be fitter and more physical but in terms of footballing ability we should be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

We've got enough skill to win the division but where we lack is in the height and physical presence. We need a tall athletic, striker and a big centre back to give our team the edge. I really think Marcus Martin is really gonna shine next season with the more competitive edge! |

As someone who grew up in the South East (an exciled Staines Town supporter) I have watched a lot of football in both the Ryeman and Southern Leagues, and am very familiar with the likes of Windsor & Eton, Bracknell,etc.
I think you will find the game more demanding physically at that level; however, on a footballing front I would have thought that Truro would be well equipped for the step-up, and would fully expect them to finish in at least the top half dozen next season.
I wish you well, and hope Dawlish will be joining you in the near future; although by the time that happens you may be in the British Gas Premier! |

Cant understand what they have to complain about.All they have to do is travel to Truro just once in the season for the away game with us.We will be traveling to their grounds every other week,and we are not moaning.

Reference the need for players with presence, I know he is pretty dedicated to Frome Town, but in City's position I would be tempted to try to persuade Frome's Jamie Cheeseman to sign. I thought he was outstanding in Frome's defence and I believe he has played at a higher level. I wonder if Sean McCarthy can do a Harry Redknapp and pick up a few "fading stars" for this level of football? I hope so!
