Gemma Ward
Gemma was born and raised in Perth, Australia. Her father is a doctor, and mother a nurse. She is the middle child with one older sister and younger twin brothers. Gemma was first discovered while attending a modeling contest with a friend, when they asked her to enter. Shortly after that, she was signed by a local agency in her hometown, where she began her stellar modeling career. After working consistently in the Australian market, at just 15, Gemma had already made a name for herself. Charming everybody in the business with her sweet and professional nature, photographers, designers, and magazine editors alike knew that she was destined for greatness. Shortly after that, an IMG scout in New York saw her picture on the cover of a magazine and contacted her agency immediately, expressing great interest in representing her. Gemma’s big break came when she was sent to casting director, Russell Marsh, who booked her exclusively to appear in Prada’s Spring 2002 runway show in Milan. Then came her first two major advertising campaigns, shooting Versus with start-making photographer Steven Meisel, and Jill Stuart, with Mario Sorrenti. Since then, Gemma has appeared in campaigns for Jil Sander, Y-3 Yhoji Yamamoto, Balenciaga, Hermes, Yves Saint Laurent, and two seasons in a row of Prada. Gemma can currently be seen in Fall 2005 ads for Valentino, Burberry’s, as well as being the new face of Calvin Klein’s Obsession Night. Top fashion magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, W and PoP all feature Gemma on a regular basis. She has already appeared on the covers of Vogue (Italian, British, French, Australian & Japanese), W, Time, i-D and Numero. In September of 2004, Gemma then 16, was profiled by American Vogue in their special “Return of the Supermodel” issue where she was featured on the cover and inside pages, making her the youngest model in history to ever appear on their cover. Gemma also stars on the cover of the first issue of Vogue China. In the short time that she has been modeling, Gemma has already worked with the industries’ most renowned photographers including Mario Sorrenti, Nick Knight, Craig Mcdean, Annie Leibovitz, Paolo Roversi, Inez & Vinoodth, Phil Poynter, Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Klein, Greg Kadel, Mikael Jansson, Nathaniel Goldberg, Karl Lagerfeld, and David Sims, to name a few. Also in high demand on the runway, Gemma has walked down an astonishing number of 52 designer catwalks in the Fall 2004 show season alone for the likes of Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Chloe, Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Helmut Lang, Ungaro, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Missoni, Mui Mui, Fendi, Gucci, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Anna Sui, Michael Kors, Luella Bartley, Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen, Narciso Rodrigues, Oscar de la Renta, and Versace. In addition, Gemma was recently seen in singer John Mayer’s latest music video, “Daughters”. Given what she has already achieved in such a short time, there can be no doubt that her star will continue to rise, and that the best is yet to come for this Australian Beauty.

in general i tend to like a bit more the pics where she looks more like a woman and less like a doll!
