Vehicle with explosives stopped in Charleston, South Carolina
Maybe they were Civil War buffs, on their way to reenact the attack on Fort Sumter.
"Vehicle with explosives stopped in US," from Deutsche Presse Agentur (thanks to rocketsbrain):
Washington (dpa) - Local police outside Charleston, South Carolina stopped a vehicle in which they found what were suspected to be explosives, according to media reports late Saturday.
Two men described as being of possibly Middle Eastern origin were in the vehicle, which was stopped on a highway. A police bomb squad was at the scene and preparing to examine the vehicle, a local television reported told the Cable News Network (CNN). _________________ "May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't." -General George S. 2 Muslim students arrested in South Carolina had pipe bombs
Not just fireworks, as CAIR's Ahmed Bedier had previously stated. And they were near a Navy Base.
Mohamed and Megahed Update. "2 Charged With Pipe Bombs Near Navy Base," by Bruce Smith for The Associated Press (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. -- Two men found with several pipe bombs in their car near a Navy base were charged Monday with possession of an explosive device, authorities said.
A joint state-federal investigation was under way to see whether there was any terrorism connection, said FBI spokeswoman Denise Taiste, but no link had been found. The Navy base is the site of a brig where enemy combatants have been held.
Of course, they may not find any connection. These guys could be freelance jihadists, like Taheri-azar.
Ahmed Abda Sherf Mohamed, 24, and Yousef Samir Megahed, 21, both students at the University of South Florida in Tampa, were driving through the area on Saturday to vacation at a North Carolina beach for Mohamed's birthday, their defense attorney said.
"They admitted to having what they said were fireworks. Based on the officer's judgment at hand, based on what he had seen, we judged it to be other than fireworks," Berkeley County Sheriff Wayne DeWitt said.
Mohamed, 24, said he made devices from items he bought at Wal-Mart, according to an affidavit with his arrest warrant.
Defense attorney Dennis Rhoad said the men have a reason for having the devices and it would become clear in later court hearings.
"The defendants deny the allegations the state and the sheriff have made against them," Rhoad said.
Prosecutor Scarlett Wilson asked for high bond, which was set at $500,000 for Mohamed and $300,000 for Megahed, because she said the men were dangerous and a risk to flee.
Mohamed is a native of Kuwait and Megahed is Egyptian, the sheriff said. Both are in the country legally.
Never fear, CAIR is on the case, working to protect us all:
The executive director of a civil rights organization for Muslims in Tampa criticized the arrest as racial profiling, an accusation South Carolina police denied. It's not clear if the item found in the vehicle is actually a bomb, said Ahmed Bedier of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
"If it's clearly a pipe bomb that's a different story. Then there is cause for concern," said Bedier.
Megahed lives with his family and they voluntarily allowed the FBI to search their home in Tampa on Monday, Bedier said.
"They're so confident that they don't have anything in their home that they gave the keys to some agents. The father voluntarily allowed them to go search the home unsupervised," Bedier said.
The two men were stopped for speeding Saturday night on U.S. Highway 176 near Goose Creek, which is the site of the Naval Weapons Station and houses the U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig, a military prison where enemy combatants have been held.
They were heading west, away from Goose Creek, when they were pulled over about seven miles from the sprawling Navy facility, police said.
Officers became suspicious because the men quickly put away a laptop computer and couldn't immediately say what they were doing in the area or where they were going, DeWitt said.
A deputy then found what he thought were explosives in the 2000 Toyota Camry and called the bomb squad. Technicians confirmed the devices were pipe bombs and destroyed them, according to sworn statements in the arrest warrants.... _________________ "May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't." -General George S. Neighbors describe unusual activity at Muslim suspects residence
http://homelandsecurityus.com/SCMuslims080707b
Also, Ahmed Bedier, executive director of CAIR's Tampa chapter, refers to young white men from the south as "good old boys."
7 August 2007: At least one neighbor of the Muslim students from the University of South Florida described their behavior as unusual, according to a report appearing on Tampa Bay's 10 News. According to a neighbor of USF student Yousef Samir MEGAHED, who verified that she was interviewed by agents from the FBI, she saw a "lot of traffic, a lot of people going back and forth, oxygen tanks being delivered UPS and Fed Ex deliveries and a lot going on" at the residence. MEGAHED, along with Ahmed Abda Sherf MOHAMED 24, was stopped with explosives just seven miles from a naval base that housed detainees near Charleston, South Carolina on Saturday. MEGAHED and MOHAMED are being held on $300,000 and $500,000 bonds respectively.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Bedier, the executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations in Tampa, appears to be using the race card when discussing this matter in an effort to downplay this incident. Specifically, Bedier appeared to be categorizing young white men from the south as "good old boys" in his recent statement:
"And honestly most people will tell you if these were some good old boys from South Carolina traveling through the highway of that county and getting pulled over and having some fireworks, I doubt that it would make news around the world. We believe that there’s an overreaction that happening here just because of their Middle Eastern and Muslim backgrounds.”

Daddy Megahed says racism led to son's terror charges
http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/018014.php
Playing the victim card, and why not? It has worked so well in the past. But after awhile it all does begin to sound as if there is a playbook somewhere that these guys are reading out of. Says Megahed père: "If he was a white man and not from the Middle East, I'm sorry, he would not be here today."
Decent Fellows Update: "Father: Indicted son no terrorist," from AP (thanks to all who sent this in):
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. - The father of a University of South Florida student accused of transporting explosives across state lines along with another student facing a terrorism-related charge says his son is not a terrorist.
"It's killing me," Samir Megahed said Saturday. "We have no charge like this in my family for 400 years. It's killing all my family in Egypt."
Engineering students Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed, 24, and Youssef Samir Megahed, 21, were indicted Friday on federal charges of carrying explosive materials across state lines. Mohammed also faces terrorism-related charges of teaching and demonstrating how to use the explosives.
[...]
"If he was a white man and not from the Middle East, I'm sorry, he would not be here today," the father said. He said his son is not a terrorist and authorities "want the stories they have in mind. It's all in their imagination."
Gotta watch out for those imaginary explosives. They can be the most lethal of all.

CAIR ACCESSORY TO JIHADIS NATIONWIDEPROVIDE ALIBIS
http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2007/09/cair-accessory-.html
CAIR is at it again. It took a couple of weeks for the jihad enablers to come up with this pathetic excuse for American jihad. Doug Ross has
the whole thing here.
CAIR: Megahed "just happened to be in the car"
Doug Ross, The Journal
Remember the case of the two South Florida students who were detained near a military base in South Carolina after pipe bombs were reportedly found in their car?
Yesterday, the U.S. Attorney's Office released additional details on the contents of their car: pipes filled with fertilizer, Karo syrup, kitty litter, bullets and fuses, a laptop with a history of web searches on Jihadist martyrdom, Hamas and Qassam rockets and video instructions for turning a remote-control car into a detonator.
quote:
When federal agents searched the men's car, a Toyota Camry registered to Megahed's brother, Yahia Megahed, they found the stuffed pipes wrapped in plastic bags in the trunk alongside a 5-gallon container of gasoline... Potassium nitrate is a low-grade explosive otherwise used as fertilizer. Kitty litter bound the ingredients while syrup could add fuel.
"I think you can safely say it's a bomb," said Edward Dreizin, a New Jersey Institute of Technology chemical engineering professor.
Agents also found a box of bullets underneath the front passenger seat, where Megahed sat. On a laptop hastily unplugged, agents discovered sites that concerned them, including searches of Qassam rockets, weapons developed by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, often made with steel pipe, liquid sugar and potassium nitrate...
When the men were taken into custody, they were questioned separately. But when they were placed in the back of a squad car together, the conversation -- in Arabic -- was recorded by a hidden microphone. Megahed reportedly asked Mohamed what happened to the pipes, if they exploded.
As investigators researched the mens' backgrounds, they found more disturbing information. In July, Mohamed posted a YouTube video that teaches viewers how to use a remote-controlled toy car as a detonator. The video's narrator says that it was intended "to save one who wants to be a martyr for another day in battle."
Mohamed admitted that he made the video and uploaded, according to authorities.
Authorities were also concerned about Megahed's recent predeliction for firearms. He recently bought a rifle, discussed purchasing a Beretta handgun, and joined a shooting range. The rifle had a telescopic sight, which is used to increase its effective range.
Megahed also possessed "multiple Egyptian passports" and visited a Sears photography center in July to acquire additional passport-sized photos. Megahed's passports reportedly offered different names. Megahed's recent travel, to Egypt, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria, also raised prosecutors' fears.
quote:
Ahmed Bedier, director of the Central Florida office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, was quick to distinguish between Megahed and Mohamed...
He defended Megahed, saying it appeared he "just happened to be in the car." But he had harsher words for Mohamed... If he could talk to Mohamed, Bedier said, "I'd say, 'Wake up!' "
He added, "Muslims don't get a second chance when they dabble with things like this. Not only will this have consequences on him, but it will have consequences on most of the Muslims in this country."
If I could talk to CAIR's Bedier, I'd say, "Wake up!" We know precisely what's going on here, Bedier.

Islamazi Bombers: Secret Terror Sign Language, Egypt Pays for Lawyers, YouTube Bomb Instructors
http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2007/10/fla-islamazi-bo.html
But CAIR says they are "good, Naive kids." Prosecutors say the signals being given were a “sinister” code that they have broken, but they are not saying what it means. More here.
Watch Video
In court, prosecutors showed video of Yahia Megahed, Youssef's 24-year-old brother, sitting at the Falkenburg Road Jail, where he was to visit his brother via video conference link. He is shown making distorted faces and saying something in sign language. The government wouldn't say what it meant, but told the judge he was trying to communicate in code to his brother. Tampa Bay News
But Adam Allen, Megahed's attorney, said that Youssef Megahed was never brought to the other side of the video conferencing unit and that his brother was just making silly faces.
After weeks of silence, the U.S. Attorney's Office opened up about its case against two University of South Florida engineering students facing explosives charges, implying that Youssef Megahed and Ahmed Mohamed had something sinister in mind when they left Tampa in early August and headed north. Tampa Bay.com
Yahia Megahed implicated today. Megahed brothers and Mohamed (all from Egypt) made hate statements about USA, so says a witness. (channel 13 news Tampa Fox affiliate)
Yahia Megahed and Yousef Megahed meet during the past week at the Orient Rd. jail Tampa, video cameras caught Yahia Megahed using sign language to communicate with his younger brother Yousef, neither one have hearing defects. (channel 13 news Tampa Fox affiliate)
Bill Warner sent the attached link to WFLA TV Tampa Fl NBC Affiliate with video of Yahia Megahed using sign language to communicate to his jailed terrorist brother Yousef Megahed at the Orient Jail Tampa Fl last week.
Go here: http://www.wfla.com/ click on "USF Student in court"
Yahia Megahed is using advanced counter surveillance techniques to avoid detection of the messages he is going to or already did communicate to his brother.
After the court hearing, that just recently wrapped up, Yahia Megahed was asked about the sign language he was using to communicate with his brother, he said "I do not know sign language, they can say whatever they want", he sounds and looks just like Mohamed Atta.
The plot thickens. Prosecutors said Megahed also had "multiple Egyptian passports" and went to Sears in late July to get more passport-sized photos. There were two passports for Megahed with two different names, Hoffer said.More interesting news out of Goose Creek.
It looks as though Egypt’s government will be paying for the legal representation of at least one of the two suspects in the Goose Creek terror case.
Attorney John Fitzgibbons told a judge he was in talks with the Egyptian embassy in Washington and likely will be hired to represent suspended University of South Florida student Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed.
Ahmed el-Qawassni, an official in Egypt’s foreign ministry, said the government is closely monitoring the case and confirmed that an attorney is being hired for Mohamed, who was born in Kuwait to Egyptian parents.
“We are responsible for the sons of Egypt abroad with no exception,” el-Qawassni said.
The Washington Post ^ | October 1, 2007 | Peter Whoriskey
MIAMI -- On a video posted to YouTube.com this summer, a man speaking Egyptian-accented Arabic instructed viewers how to convert a remote-controlled toy car into a bomb detonator. The 12-minute lesson was referenced on the popular video-sharing Web site under the search terms "detonator from a distance," "suiciders" and "martyrdoms." A detonator could "save one who wants to be a martyr for another day, another battle," the man told viewers, according to federal prosecutors. Last month, authorities identified the instructor as Mohamed Ahmed, 24, a graduate engineering student at the University of South Florida. An Egyptian national, he'd been stopped...
Despite the grim implications of what the government presented, prosecutors said they had no "hard, specific evidence" of a motive or answers for a judge's questions about what the men intended to do with the items, prompting U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Jenkins to set bail for one of the men, although he remains in custody pending appeal. YIKES!
When the men were taken into custody and separately questioned, Megahed said he knew nothing about the materials in the trunk. . But when both men were put in the back of a squad car, they spoke to each other in Arabic. In that conversation, which was secretly recorded, Megahed asked Mohamed what happened to the pipes, if they exploded. More here.

Arrested Yousef Samir Megahed (Goose Creek SA pipe bombs) age 21 also is linked to the same address 14240 42nd Street unit #1105 Tampa Fl 33613 and appears to have moved out of the location in March 2007.
Yousef Megahed lives with his family and they voluntarily allowed the FBI to search their home in Tampa on Monday, Ahmed Bedier said. . (4959 Anniston Cir Tampa Fl 33647 current address) NOTE do not show complete address, this will cause severe problems to innocent neighbors.
From Florida DMV records there are 3 vehicles registered to Yahia Samir Megahed at the new address for Symbyo Technologies 4959 Anniston Cir Tampa Fl 33647, this is also the same address that appears to be on arrested Yousef Samir Megahed's Florida Drivers license, the two men are brothers.
Arrested Yousef Samir Megahed has no vehicle registered to him in the state of Florida, but he was the instigator of the trip to North Carolina and the driver of the vehicle stopped in Goose Creek SC. Yousef Samir Medahed was driving a sliver 2000 Toyota Camry with Florida plates when arrested, he also had a lap top computer in the car that the two "students" tried to hide from the cops.
Quote from Sarasota herald Tribune, "explosives in the 2000 Toyota Camry and called the bomb squad.. Technicians confirmed the devices were pipe bombs and destroyed them, according to sworn statements in the arrest warrants".
The brother, Yahia Samir Megahed owns a silver 2000 Toyota Camry, this is the car that had the pipe bombs and "liquid" in the trunk.

RE: Counterfeit CD, DVD's and Microsoft "Vista" software programs coming into Port of Tampa From Cairo.
I have spoken before and have posted an article on my web site concerning counterfeit Microsoft Vista programs coming in from Cairo to the Port of Tampa and then sold at a variety of Muslim stores with the profits going to fund terrorism. There was a world wide FBI bust of the distributers (Cairo was one) of the counterfeit Microsoft Vista programs on 7/24/2007, see link above.
Curiously Yahia Samir Megahed the older brother of arrested Yousef Samir Megahed owns a computer software development company and he has a contract with Microsoft in Cairo, he also has an office in Cairo, see below, small world.
I have not found a direct link from the counterfeit Microsoft Vista software to Yahia Samir Megahed, so use this info accordingly.

Media fantasy land
http://www.actforamerica.org/
A symptom of the "political correctness" in America that is aiding and abetting Islamofascism is the way the "mainstream" media chooses to report, or not report, Islamist terror incidents. The following story is compelling reading about which cases get the "mainstream" media's attention - and which ones don't - and how the "mainstream" media reports these cases.
By Joel Mowbray
The Washington Times
In the terrorism case of two young Egyptian nationals and University of South Florida students arrested Aug. 4 in South Carolina, fascinating twists and turns abound.
There's a secret recording of the defendants discussing strategy shortly after their arrest. There's a YouTube video in which one of the defendants gave instructions in Arabic on converting a remote-control toy into a bomb detonator, which he allegedly told police was made to help people in Arab countries "defend themselves against the infidels invading their countries," specifically "against those who fought for the United States."
That's not all. The father of one of the defendants, Youssef Megahed, all but pointed the finger at the co-defendant, Ahmed Mohamed, as the sole culprit, thus implying that his son was ignorant or duped.
Yet this compelling drama has drawn scant attention from the mainstream media. And while apologists might attempt to write off the paucity of coverage for various reasons, a slew of other terrorism cases since September 11 have been met with the same media disinterest. [emphasis added].
Following the arrests of Mr. Mohamed and Mr. Megahed on Aug. 4 with explosives in the trunk of their car - just seven miles from a naval weapons base in Goose Creek, S.C. - The Washington Post and New York Times made fleeting references. [emphasis added]. Each paper ran a brief overview from the Associated Press, with no independent reporting.
After the federal government indicted the two defendants on explosives charges and Mr. Mohamed on terrorism-related charges, the Times devoted not even 500 words - on page 14, no less. That was actually more aggressive than The Post, which discussed the indictment, but only in the context of the revelation of the YouTube video, which included asking what might happen to the Internet giant.
Neither highly esteemed outlet reported the full contents in the trunk of the vehicle the pair was driving: a box of .22-caliber bullets, gun powder, several gallons of gasoline, PVC piping, 20 feet of fuse, and a drill.
Neither paper even mentioned perhaps the most amusing part of the case: the conversation between the two defendants in the back of the police car after the arrest. Not knowing an audio recorder was capturing their words, the two had the following exchange:
"Did you tell them there is something in them?" Mr. Mohamed asked, presumably referring to the PVC pipes.
"Water," Mr. Megahed said.
"Water! Right? The black water is in the Pepsi."
Also left unreported by the Post and the Times was that Mr. Mohamed's computer contained a file named "Bomb Shock," which contained detailed information on TNT and C-4, a military-grade plastic explosive.
Most shocking is the apparent animus Mr. Mohamed harbors for the U.S. military. According to a court document, Mr. Mohamed "considered American troops, and those military forces fighting with the American military, to be invaders of Arab countries."
When someone with seething anger toward U.S. soldiers drives a car filled with explosive materials two states away to a naval station, how is that not major news? [emphasis added].
Contrast that to the coverage afforded the recent mistrial in the government's case against Holy Land Foundation, an alleged front for Hamas.
The mistrial was spun by most mainstream media outlets as a major defeat to U.S. counterterrorism efforts. The New York Times dedicated over 1,200 words in a page-one story. The Washington Post was a bit more restrained, putting its coverage on page three, but the editorial page ran a stinging criticism by Georgetown Professor David Cole of supposed government overreach.
Defenders of high-profile treatment of the Holy Land mistrial likely would assert the connection to September 11, as the Islamic charity was shut down with great fanfare in October 2001.
But what about the case of Ali al-Timimi, a Muslim cleric who was convicted in 2005 for urging his followers shortly after September 11 to wage jihad against the United States. The Times ran its coverage of the April 2005 conviction on page 12. The life sentence Mr. Timimi received that July was bumped back to page 21.
At least The Post placed the story about Mr. Timimi's conviction on the front page. This might have owed to the local angle, though, as Mr. Timimi taught at an adult Islamic education center in Northern Virginia.
Just three months later, The Post editorialized against Mr. Timimi's life sentence, under the headline, "Sentenced for Speaking." Emphasizing that none of his followers had actually waged successful jihad, The Post wrote, "[he] has been sentenced to life in prison for words that had little effect."
So, success is the barometer for importance? Does this mean continued media avoidance of thwarted terrorism on our soil until the government fails to stop an attack?

How did an Arab bomb making instructor get into the United States, please send your email
FFA@floridafamily.org
The Tampa Tribune published in their editorial today "Clearly something is afoul with security if an Arab bomb-making instructor can roost comfortably at an American university and teach others how to become more efficient killers. The public is due an explanation of how this occurred."
Florida Family Association whole heartedly agrees with The Tampa Tribune's demand for an explanation. This Email Alert gives you the opportunity to add feet to The Tampa Tribune's demand by asking the appropriate U.S. officials for an explanation of how this happened and assurance that it won't happen again.
Youssef Megahed (L) and Ahmed Mohamed (R) (pictured above left) were arrested on August 4th in South Carolina for possession of pipe bombs. They were stopped for speeding about seven miles from the Goose Creek Naval Weapons Station. The Goose Creek Naval Weapons Station is the location where 40 percent of the Army's and 60 percent of the Marines' weapons, tanks, Humvees and helicopters are moved through before they are transported overseas. The base also houses a military prison for enemy combatants. Mohamed and Megahed were returned to Tampa, Florida after a federal grand jury indicted them for carrying explosive materials across state lines. Mohamed also faces terrorism-related charges on suspicion of demonstrating how to use the explosives.
Florida Family Association launched an email campaign in September that urged U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday to deny Megahed's bail request. That email campaign garnered the second highest number of responses of any campaign that Florida Family Association has launched. Judge Merryday denied bail to Youseff Megahed on October 25th. Ahmed Mohamed did not request bail because ICE has placed an immigration hold on him.
Now The Tampa Tribune and others in the community are asking how Ahmed Mohamed got into the United States and what actions are being taken to prevent mistakes like this from happening in the future.
We have prepared an email for you to send to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and her staff, Congresswoman Kathy Castor and her staff (represents Tampa district where the two USF students will go on trial), U.S Senator Mel Martinez's Chief of Staff (Florida), U.S. Senator Bill Nelson's Chief of Staff (Florida), U.S. Senator Jon Kyl's Chief of Staff (Ranking Republican on the Terrorism, Technology & Homeland Security Subcommittee), Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey, Vice President Dick Cheney (who has responded to our requests in the past) and President George Bush.
Please send your email to ask these officials to explain to the public how Ahmed Mohamed was allowed to come into the United States and to take steps to assure us that this does not happen again.
Please click here to send your email to these United States Officials and their staff members.
