One hurt by shrapnel in Kassam attack

A Thai worker was lightly wounded by shrapnel Sunday when a Kassam rocket landed in a western Negev moshav.

The man was evacuated by Magen David Adom paramedics to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba. Another person was sent into shock as a result of the attack and was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
The Kassam was part of a four-rocket salvo that landed near the Eshkol Regional Council before noon. The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.
As casualties from rocket attacks on the Gaza periphery mounted, Israeli officials warned that the Shavuot holiday, which begins Sunday evening, would be a test for the Palestinians and might tilt the balance for or against undertaking a wide-scale military incursion into the Strip in the coming days.
Overnight Saturday, IDF troops killed Bilal Shorbasy, a member of Hamas's armed wing, east of Gaza City. The army said that Shorbasy was trying to plant a bomb near the border fence in the northern Gaza Strip.
Palestinians reported that another man was wounded by the IDF fire.
Also Saturday night, IDF troops arrested a Palestinian fugitive in Jenin. The man was transferred to the custody of security forces for interrogation following his arrest.
Meanwhile, the West Bank and Gaza Strip was sealed at midnight Saturday for Shavuot.
The closure, which bars nearly all Palestinians from entering Israel, was put in place due to unspecific warnings of terror attacks and was scheduled to last through midnight Monday, the army said.
In addition, Kibbutz Kfar Aza, near the Gaza Strip, was set to witness a mass exodus as families were expected to leave for Shavuot to take refuge from the incessant rocket and mortar shell attacks.
Fifty kibbutz families were set to spend the holiday in Kibbutz Deganya Alef, near the Kinneret, while dozens of others were planning to stay with relatives elsewhere.
