Iran's Islamic Revolution of 1979 has not produced the Islamic paradise it envisioned. Since the revolution, unemployment has soared, inflation is high, and poverty is widespread. The religious repression and economic recession have been paralleled by social deterioration: frustration, despair, homelessness, prostitution, drug addiction, suicide and AIDS are widespread. Iran is ruled by a supreme leader, the Ayatollah Khamenei, and 12 Ayatollahs as a Council of Guardians who may reject any legislation they deem "un-Islamic." On Friday, June 17th, Iranians voted in Iran's 7th Presidential elections, from which all female candidates were excluded. Anger and hopelessness led many reformists and women to boycott the polls, while Islamic and anti-American zeal, plus the mobilizing efforts of the Basij Islamic militia brought the conservatives out in force. The moderate candidate was soundly defeated, and the runner-up is even more committed to fundamental Islam than Hashemi Rafsanjani, the incumbent appointed by Ayatollah Khamenei, who is expected to win in a run-off election.
Pray God will protect His already suffering church in Iran, and bless His children who are His ambassadors. Pray the Holy Spirit will reveal Christ the Savior to Iranians through supernatural means and the witness of His people.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has flooded the Majlis (parliament) with former Revolutionary Guards while Ayatollah Khamenei has made key changes in security structures and strategies to entrench the Revolutionary Guards' hegemony over all law enforcement agencies. Now that Iran has begun to enact a policy of zero-tolerance toward breaches of the ideals of the Islamic revolution, it does not require much imagination to see how much pain and trauma Christians, other non-Muslims and freedom-loving Persians are destined to experience as Ayatollah Khamenei and President Ahmadinejad forcefully advance their Shi'ite vision of a pure Islamic state. Under orders from their new police chief, Iran's police have commenced a crackdown on "models of corruption," or in other words poorly veiled women. (Iran Focus August 27th) Iran's new Minister of Justice vowed on Saturday August 20th, that "being improperly veiled and not wearing a veil are no different. When it is clear from the appearance of a woman that she has violated the law, then the crime is obvious and law enforcement agents can take legal measures against her." He has also made it clear members of the para-military Bassij and the notorious Ansar-e Hizbollah, government organized gangs of hooligans, are regarded as law enforcement agents in clergy-ruled Iran. (Iran Focus August 25th) (Click here)
Pray God will raise up Christian prayer warriors worldwide to stand in the gap for His witness in Iran. Pray the Lord will empower the few Christians with a holy boldness to continue faithful to Jesus. Pray for the Muslim authorities who need to know the reality of our loving heavenly Father.

July 24th, an Iranian Christian, named Issa Motamadi, was imprisoned on account of his faith. French internet news site VoxDei reports that Issa Motamadi, a resident of the North-western town of Resht, the capital of Gilan Province, will soon stand trial before a Revolutionary Tribunal. While Issa Motamadi has been accused of apostasy, it is likely that a non-religious charge will eventually be leveled against him in order to prevent accusations of religious persecution. Article 23 of Iran's Constitution states: "The investigation of individuals' beliefs is forbidden, and no one may be molested or taken to task simply for holding a certain belief." Allegedly, Issa and his wife Parvah came to the attention of the authorities around seven months ago when they decided to give their newborn son a Biblical, Christian name. Sources explain that this is interpreted as a sign of irrevocable rupture with Islam as it demonstrates that the child is born to Christian parents. Identified as Christian from birth, he cannot be accused of apostasy. There causes great concern that President Ahmadinejad may escalate persecution of Christians.
Pray Issa and Parvah will be strong as they stand up for Jesus. Pray that human rights and religious liberty organizations will intercede for Issa with appeals to their Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pray our loving and merciful Savior will make Himself known to the authorities in Iran who are in bondage to the tenets of Islam.

One month after ordering his arrest, Iranian court authorities in the Northern city of Rasht have released Christian convert Issa Motamedi Mojdehi, declaring the former Muslim "free for the moment." Motamedi Mojdehi was granted bail August 24th on the basis of a written guarantee from a fellow Christian, who signed over his personal work charter to a revolutionary court in order to obtain the prisoner's release. Although the initial drug charges that were the pretext for Motamedi Mojdehi's arrest remain in his legal file, the judge introduced new accusations against him at his August 24th hearing. According to unnamed "confidential witnesses," the judge said, the convert's 8-year-old daughter, Martha, allegedly had been trying to lead other children to the Christian faith.
Give thanks and praise to God for Issa's temporary release. Pray God will put a hedge of protection around him and his family, particularly his daughter, Martha. Pray the Lord will show Himself mighty in undermining all efforts of the Iranian government to stop the spread of Christianity.

Christian Couple Released on Bail – Compass Direct
After nine days in secret police custody, Reza Montazami and his wife, Fereshteh Dibaj, were released on bail this morning by order of a Revolutionary Court in Mashhad, Iran. Montazami's elderly parents posted bail for the detained Christian couple, turning over the title deed for property worth $25,000. Within hours, Montazami and his wife were allowed to return home. Although no specific charges against the Christian couple have been made public, the file on their case reportedly remains open. Give thanks to God this couple is now free. Continue to pray for their protection. Psalm 64:1, 2

New Wave of Persecution in Iran – VOM Sources
On June 19, 2007, The Voice of the Martyrs confirmed reports that believers in Iran are being detained, interrogated and in one case, imprisoned, because of their faith in Jesus Christ. According to VOM sources, this new wave of persecution is coming against Christians who meet to worship God in the privacy of their homes. VOM sources said, “We have confirmed reports that several believers have been interrogated and one house was stormed by an elite police team that confiscated a computer, several CDs and Christian materials. A Christian was arrested in this attack, and remains in prison.” Pray believers in Iran will remain steadfast in their faith despite this new wave of persecution. Pray for the release of the believer in prison and for protection for all Christians in Iran. Psalm 27:1-31, Joshua 1:8-9
