NORTH KOREA

A North Korean church leader is facing the death penalty after being arrested on charges of plotting to overthrow the government. According to Jubilee Campaign, a British human rights organization, Seong Jeun Moon, 64, was taken into custody by North Korean State Security Agency officers in Peeyeong Gun, in the Pyongan province of North Korea. Moon, leader of an underground church in North Korea, and a number of his brothers and sisters, have also been arrested and questioned. The charge of treason carries the death penalty. The secret interrogation of Moon was nearly completed as of early September. Past cases of a similar nature have led Jubilee Campaign to believe Moon and many others could possibly be executed.

Pray our powerful and merciful God will move the hearts of the North Korean authorities to allow Moon and other Christians to live. Thank the Lord for every member of an underground church and ask Him to protect these courageous believers. Pray God will gather together many more disillusioned and desperate North Koreans into His Kingdom.

Ten North Koreans have been arrested and imprisoned in Laos while attempting to find a safe haven in a Southeast Asian country. Two South Korean Christian aid workers who were aiding the escapees were also arrested. The Washington, D.C.-based International Christian Concern says if Laos chooses to surrender the escapees to the North Korean embassy, they will almost certainly face either a long imprisonment in the Gulag or a death sentence.

Pray God will work a miracle of His grace to help the North Korean Christians find a safe haven. Pray the aid workers will be released and allowed to return to South Korea. Continue in fervent prayer for religious freedom to return to North Korea.

There is a spiritual war taking place in North Korea as our enemy seeks to destroy the souls of North Korea's citizens. Following "the God of Heaven" is considered treason, punishable by imprisonment or even death. Caught in the middle of this spiritual battle are our persecuted brothers and sisters, bearers of Light in a terribly dark country. Much of VOM's work in North Korea cannot be discussed publicly, but we can tell you we are supporting the spread of the gospel, training leaders in the underground church and providing Scriptures to the people of North Korea. Pray God will give discernment and protection to those who are bringing the comfort of Christ Himself to our suffering brothers and sisters in North Korea. Pray North Koreans will find the source of true peace that exists for North Koreans: the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. Matthew 25:40

Evangelist Executed for Bible Distribution - VOM Sources/ World Bible Distribution
A North Korean evangelist has been executed for possessing and distributing a Korean New Testament. World Bible Translation Center has confirmed the incident, even though the details of the death are not available. Pray for the family and friends of this evangelist. Ask God to comfort them and encourage them, knowing that to be absent in this natural body, is to be present with the Lord. Also pray Christians in North Korea will entrust themselves to Christ and preach the gospel without hesitation. II Timothy 1:7-12

Christians Arrested, Whereabouts Unknown - VOM Sources
In September, the National Security Service of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) announced the arrest of several "foreign spies" and "native citizens working for a foreign intelligence service." VOM sources say those arrested are Christians and not spies. VOM sources have identified the following nine Christians who have disappeared and are believed to have been arrested by government authorities: Mr. Chul Huh (34), Mr. Chun-Il Jang (39), Mr. Myung-Chul Kim (36), Ms. Young-Su Jin (32), Mr. Nam-Suk Kang (48), Mr. San-Ho Kang (36), Mr. Suk-Chun Suh (29), Ms. Mi-Hae Park (30) and Ms. Young-Yae Lee (37). The whereabouts of these individuals is unknown. It is possible they have already been tried and executed. Pray the loved ones of those arrested will find peace in the fact that God works all things for the good of those who love Him and who have been called according to His purpose.
