On June 25, CAA released a report listing the cases of persecution against Chinese house churches in different provinces in China from May 2005-May 2006. According to the report, in the past 12 months, at least 1,958 Chinese house church pastors and Christians in 15 provinces have been arrested. It is reported that police officers and religious affairs cadres conducting the raids have mistreated and tortured Christians. The report shows that Henan has been the worst province in persecution against house churches. In 11 raids between July 2005 and May 2006, 823 pastors and believers were arrested. Five American citizens were arrested as well. Many of those arrested were abused. After a raid on March 13, 2006 in Wen county, two arrested Christian ladies, 72 and 21, were forced to strip off their clothes during the interrogation. A disabled pastor, Li Gongshe, was severely beaten with one of his ribs broken. (Read the whole story at www.ChinaAid.org). "Henan province should be put on notice as having the worst religious persecution record," said Rev. Bob Fu of CAA, "It is morally imperative for any conscientious foreign investors in Henan to address this serious issue."
Communicate your concern to the Henan province authority:
Governor of Henan Governor Li Chengyu
Tel: +86-371-65908675 and 65907565
Fax number: +86-371-65711621
Emails: webadmin@cpmembers.org.cn and gufeng@cpmembers.org.cn
Pray Christians in China's house churches will remain faithful to the One who has called them into His Kingdom. Pray those in prison will point their enemies toward Jesus. Pray for an international outpouring of protest that will cause the authorities to stop attacks on house churches.

A prominent female house church leader was imprisoned in Jilin province on July 14, 2006. Additionally, in the past few days, 17 house church pastors were detained in Henan and Sichuan provinces. According to eyewitness reports, on July 11, Mrs. Wang Jinhua, a prominent house church leader, was arrested along with her husband Mr. Xu Jinfu and their 8-year-old son Xu Enze. Xu Enze was released after some members of the church asked for the boy's release. After being interrogated for three days and nights, Mrs. Wang was transferred to Baishan Prison in Baishan town, Jilin city. Her husband Mr. Xu was released on the same day. The interrogators signed the date of Mrs. Wang's transfer and Mr. Xu's release as July 12th (instead of July 14th) in order to cover their illegal extension of summons time. Another major house church leader, Mr. Yu Peng, was forced to flee and is now on the run because he was put on the wanted list by the government. At least three other leaders of his church were questioned by the PSB.
Pray the Lord will deliver Mrs. Wang from those who would harm her. Pray God will give her His peace and hope for the future. Pray those who are coming against the Christians in China will begin to thirst for the living God.

Rock the Desert is an outdoor Christian concert festival held annually in Midland, TX. This year the event will feature the lack of true religious freedom in China and growing persecution of house churches there. Rock the Desert is scheduled for July 27th – 29th. The following special cases will be among those highlighted:
Jiang Zongxiu, who was beaten to death for carrying the Scripture. Her family has not seen any justice. Her remains are still in the hands of the government and her abusers are still free.
Pastor Cai Zhuohua, in a Chinese prison today, is accused of printing Bibles. Pastor Cai's 5-year-old son is living with his grandparents while his wife is also in prison.
Pastor Zhang Rongliang was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison on July 4, 2006, after he was arrested on December 1, 2004, for his leadership in the house church movement.
Pray this event will enlighten many people to the reality of Christian persecution in China. Pray God will open eyes and hearts to respond by praying, writing letters of support and giving generously to support the families of prisoners. Pray that although the prisoners' bodies are physically deprived and even tortured, their spirits will thrive as they know the abiding presence of their Savior.

Fifty house-church leaders and Christians are still being detained after their church building was destroyed by the Chinese government on July 29, 2006. Meanwhile, the Chinese House Church Alliance issued an urgent statement calling for an independent international investigation regarding the forced destruction of the church and arbitrary arrests of these Christians. Among the 50 detained, four are still missing. On July 29, 2006, the local government sent several hundred trucks, four excavators, and thousands of military policemen to the building site to destroy the church. There were several thousand Christians there. When the police violently dispersed them, some Christians were injured, and over 50 were arrested. Since the Chinese central government official still denies the existence of those arrested, their church family members are greatly concerned. The church has not received any information about the conditions of their brothers and sisters in prison.
On the morning of July 27th, a Sunday school teacher's training class in Wangxi Production Group, Gengwang Zhuang, Tong Xu Village; Huainan City, Anhui Province was attacked by the local national security guard squad. Based on eyewitness information, some Christians, including 90 children (age 9-16), and 40 adults, were attending a summer Bible teacher's training class in the home of Li Lizhong, a villager in Anhui Province, when the local police suddenly attacked them. The party branch secretary of the village, went to Li Lizhong's house with another village cadre member. They scouted the training class on the pretext of examining "family planning," and left. A half hour later, more than 40 village cadre members and a squad of the National Security Guarder stormed into the village and surrounded Li's house. Under the pretext that the training class was disturbing the peace, the police swarmed the house. Some church equipment was carried away. In the whole process, the police did not show a search warrant or any legal certificate. All the children were released after registering their names and other personal information. More than 40 adults were taken to the police station and all were released at 3:00 a.m. the next morning, except for two, Pastor Li Lizhong and Sister Cai Yili, who were sentenced to 15 days administrative custody.
Three more Christian leaders from Xiaoshan district were arrested on August 3rd, 47 are still in jail. The three leaders are Brother Ni Huiming (45), Sister Shen Zhuke (52), and Brother Shen Jian (48).The local authority is threatening to force all Christian companies to pay a heavy fine for their support of the church building which was destroyed on July 29th. One Christian lady, Sister Wang Aizhen from Kanshan town, Xiaoshgan district, was severely beaten by the anti-riot police on July 29th, and one of her chest bones was broken. She is still being hospitalized.
Pray the Christians will remain faithful to Jesus, loving in their attitude toward their enemies, and bold in their witness. Pray those in prison will be comforted by the Word they have hidden in their hearts. Pray many Chinese officials will realize they are working for a cause that does not satisfy their deepest longings.

On August 17th, Chinese authorities released Zan Aizong, a journalist who reported the Hangzhou City police using force to demolish an unregistered church building and beating hundreds of believers on July 29th. Zan, the former China Ocean News Zhejiang Province bureau chief, was arrested on August 11th for "spreading rumors and disturbing social order." Two days before his arrest, Zan received a notice from his employer that he was "no more suitable for the job." As a journalist, Zan said in a telephone interview on August 20th, "my responsibility is to report the truth, even though it means losing my job." According to Yu Jie, a founder of the Beijing Church of Ark, Zan was recently baptized in a house church in Hanzhou. Yu believes Zan's experience in jail will only make him identify more with the plight of the believers.
Give thanks to God for Zan's release. Pray the Lord will provide a job for him and allow him to continue his ministry of countering the lies of the enemy. Pray Jesus will use Zan's increased compassion for suffering Christians to bring relief to many believers.

Four Christians in custody in Langzhong City, Sichuan Province have submitted applications demanding their right to read the Bible in the detention center where they have been since June 27. They also asked that a suitable place inside the detention center be provided for regular Sunday services. The four Christians, Li Ming, Jin Jirong, Wang Yuan, and Li Mingbo, were illegally arrested when they went to the local Social Order Office to inquire about the situation of two members of their church, currently imprisoned. The four applicants have not been allowed to read the Bible since they were sent to the detention center. The officers even forbid them to use biblical terms such as God, Jesus, etc, when they communicate with their families. August 20, 2006, the four engaged Dr. Li Baiguang, from Beijing, and Miss Gou Qingju, as their lawyers. The formal application on their behalf requests the assurance of their right to read the Bible and a place to meet for regular Sunday services at the detention center. Dr. Li Baiguang commented, "Though we know our legal action may have little obvious effect, we will persevere. This case would also shake up Chinese judicial officers and let them know religious freedom is a birth right that can never be deprived. Secondly, it can serve as a legal education for officers in the Chinese government who lack the basic concept of Rule of Law."
Pray these four Christians find favor with the court and receive their requests. Pray their witness of faith and courage will allow the officials to see the reality of Jesus in their lives. Pray the name of Jesus will be glorified in all the proceedings.

Christians Protest Government Takeover of Church Property – China Aid Association
CAA learned that 300 Christians from a Three-Self Patriotic Movement church in Gansu province have remained silent for 15 days at their original church property, protesting the local government that is occupying it. They are requesting the return of this property to the church. Also, on October 20, local police besieged a home where Christians were gathered for a house blessing in Qingshui Town, Xinjiang. More than 10 Christians, including three Singaporeans, were arrested and released the next day. Five are still in detention. They are: Brother Liu and Brother Ouyang Liang from Uramqi, Brother Li Baoming, Brother Tan Defu, and Brother LouYuanqi from Huocheng. Brother Ouyang, whose home was searched by the police, has been escorted to an unknown place. Pray our omnipotent God will strengthen these believers and bring more of the light of Christ into the spiritual darkness in China. Genesis 1:3

Christians Arrested in China - VOM Sources /China Aid Association
On January 22, 2007, three "Minority for Christ" workers were arrested in Guizhou province. Guizhou has one of the largest Hmong populations and is also one of the strongest Communist provinces in China.
VOM sources also report that security police arrested 11 Korean Christians after visiting a local village in China. After extensive interrogation they were released. The group is helping a local village build a new church building.
On January 26, 2007, Hua Huidi and his 76-year-old mother were attacked and wounded by seven police officers while walking near a 2008 Olympic hotel site in Beijing, China. According to China Aid Association (CAA), Hua, an active house-church member in Beijing, and his mother were kicked on the ground and later taken to the Olympic Police Station for questioning. "When Hua asked the police to release his sick mother and explain the legal ground for the detention, he was beaten repeatedly. While the temperature in Beijing was in the 20s, cold water was poured on him. He was later taken to a detention center," CAA said. Hua's family learned that he was sentenced to one month of criminal detention.
Pray God continues to protect Christians in China. Persecution is expected to intensify ahead of the 2008 Olympics. Ask God to give believers wisdom and courage as they face these difficult times. Deuteronomy 31:6 Deuteronomy 31:6
