Ayoon Wa Azan (It is not Enough to Eradicate the Assassin)
Jihad el-Khazen Al-Hayat - 13/12/06//
We can say, calmly and objectively, that we do have a problem and the problem consists of the terrorism perpetrated by the extremist Islamic groups that kill innocents in the name of religion and inflict on Islam and its spirit of forgiveness damage that the enemies are unable to inflict.
Last week I chose a few subjects out of loads of material that show how terrorism has hurt Muslims, but the week had not elapsed before armed people killed two guards outside a jail in Jeddah, which reminded me of previous similar incidents whereby terrorists killed some traffic policemen in Cairo.
Is there a simpler or easier or more miserable case than that of a guard or policeman who is providing for a family, rather a large one and with a minimum salary? Then a terrorist who has been diverted from the path of reason and humanity by a deviant thought that is the farthest from Islam and its mission kills him and leaves behind him a widow, orphans, and permanent sadness.
It is not enough to have the assassin assassinated. The criminal mind that produced him must be killed.
This month I was in Istanbul for a dialogue between Islam and the West that is sponsored by the International Economic Forum. Then I spoke in the British Parliament about the Arabs and the Jews and I tried with others participants to bridge the gaps between the two peoples. Next month I will also be in Davos to follow up the dialogue between Islam and the West, and each month afterwards up to the summer I will participate in international activities with a view to defending Islam.
Who put Islam in the bar? It is not its enemies who did; it is rather the terrorists who carried arms to defend it, without the latter being accused, and they ended up killing innocent Muslims when they did not find anyone else to kill.
How can any Arab or Muslim defend Islam while there are terrorists from within giving its enemies the pretext and the excuse which dispenses those enemies with giving any pretext.
I present the reader with examples on what we are facing:
- Daniel Pipes is one of the most dangerous enemies of Islam and Muslims and he is the most spiteful of all. He is the one who set the basis for what is called "monitoring Islamists" with the aim of fighting the Islamists who work within the framework of the law since he says terrorists are unconcealed. He is rude to a large extent and to the extent that he wrote an article entitled "How to End Terrorism" that is a synopsis of a lecture he gave in Brazil. In this article he pretends that he can in one page resolve a bloody and intractable problem that states and intelligence services had failed to solve.
The most important point is that he talks about "the Sudden Jihad Syndriome" and he groups Hamas and Al-Qaeda in one paragraph, then he says that Fascism was defeated in 1945 while Communism was defeated in 1991 and what is left now is the defeat of Islamic totalitarianism. Of course he does not say that Israel is the greatest terrorist and criminal state in the world, but he talks about Hamas which is a national liberation movement in the face of a barbarian occupation, as if it were of the Al-Qaeda type which is a terrorist organization.
I pretend that the Al-Qaeda terrorism is a greater enemy to Hamas, The Islamic Jihad, and Hizbullah than Daniel Pipes and all other enemies are.
Has the reader heard of the six Imams story in the United States? The subject was raised last month when the Imams were prevented, after they had tried praying, from traveling to attend an Islamic conference because of doubts about their being terrorists. I have been reading about the issue up to now. Whereas the sober Washington Post spoke of a "Diversity of Opinion on Imam's Dispute With airline", the extremist Washington Times took a bold step by saying "How the Imams Terrorized an Airliner"; it also said: "Imam Disputes tie to Hamas" as if it were an accusation. The paper also stated, "Three Probes Dismiss Imams' Racism Claim". The most despicable of all is an article posted on an extremist website written by Paul Sperry under the title "Imams Gone Wild". Ironically, I read that some of the passengers were frightened when they heard the Imams repeat God's name in their prayer and they considered this a sign of potential terrorism. If the men had been six Arab priests they would have also used the word "Allah" in their prayer.
I say that the terrorists are the ones who have made Muslims the subject of accusation in every place up to the point that their prayer has become an issue.
-Keith Allison, the first Muslim entering the American parliament, said he wants to take an oath using the Koran in the oath ceremony for the new members of parliament on the 4th of next month. Suddenly, Denis Prager revolted against him from an extremist position pretending that his decision "harms American civilization" and that members of parliament, Christians and Muslims, take an oath using the Bible, and that if Allison does not, he must not be allowed to serve in Congress.
Prager is lying since members of parliament take an oath collectively and there is no text in the constitution or any other document that forces them to swear an oath using the Old Testament. Yet I am still reading about support for the new member of parliament as well as denunciation as if he had robbed a bank. Jane Lampman wrote in the Christian Science Monitor, "At Swearing in, Congressman Wants to Carry Koran. Outrage Ensues".
Was Keith Allison's attitude going to raise any queries had it not been for terrorism and the harm it inflicts upon Muslims? Do I need to ask the question? It is terrorism that made the Muslim member of parliament a target before he entered Congress.
Every day there is a story. I condemn terrorism unconditionally and hold it responsible for any harm inflicted on Muslims, as it has facilitated the task of the enemies, and how numerous they are! Does the reader believe that the host of a radio program whose name is Jerry Klein suggested that Muslims in the United States be forced to have a crescent tattoo or to carry its picture so that people beware of them? Does the reader believe that the suggestion was supported by a huge number of listeners? However, he launched a severe attack on the listeners and said he was joking, adding that he does not believe his listeners can accept that Muslims are treated the same way the Jews were dealt with by the Nazis when they forced them to wear a yellow David star and they ended up exterminating them.
And as I started saying that we do have a problem, every referendum on Muslims in America reveals a fear of them or links them to terrorism or hatred or war. We cannot eliminate this gloomy and unfair picture without suppressing terrorism at the levels of practice and thought before it destroys what is left from our reputation and hope in the future.
