One Solitary Life
He came from the bosom of the Father to the bosom of a woman. He put on humanity that we might put on holiness. He became Son of man that we might become sons of God. He came from heaven, where the rivers never freeze, winds never blow, frosts never chill the air, flowers never fade, and no one is ever sick. No undertakers and no graveyards are there, for no one ever dies.
He was born contrary to the laws of nature, lived in poverty, was reared in obscurity; only once He crossed the boundary of the land, in childhood. He had no wealth nor prestige, and had neither formal training or education. His relatives were inconspicuous and uninfluential.
In infancy He startled a king; in boyhood he puzzled the doctors; in manhood He ruled the course of nature--He walked upon the billows and hushed the sea to sleep. He healed the multitudes without medicine, and made no charge for His services. He never wrote a book, yet the libraries of His country could not hold the books that have been written about Him. He never wrote a song, yet he has furnished the theme of more songs than any song writer. He never founded a school, yet no teacher has so many students as He.
He is the Star of astronomy, the Rock of geology, the Lion and the Lamb of zoology, the Harmonizer of all discords, and the Healer of all diseases. Great men have come and gone, yet He lives on. Herod could not kill Him; Satan could not move Him; death could not destroy Him; the grave could not hold Him. He laid aside His purple robe for a peasant's gown. ''He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor.'' He slept in another's manger. He cruised the lake in another's boat; He rode on another man's donkey. He was buried in another man's tomb.
All others failed in some respects, but He never. the ever-perfect One-- He is ''the chiefest among ten thousand!'' He is altogether lovely! HE IS MY SAVIOR!
I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, and all the navies that ever sailed, and all the parliaments that ever sat, and all the kings that ever ruled have not affected the life of man on this planet as has this ONE SOLITARY LIFE...the life of Jesus Christ.
I would challenge anyone to name one person in all of human history that has had such an impact on humanity, whether it be good or bad, as the life of this one man. Go ahead, try to think of one... I have tried and failed.
Think of it, almost every book every written, every building built, every song composed, every birth and death, in the last 2,000 years... is hinged upon His birth. Why is that?
It will always boogle my mind...
May God bless all of you and bring you peace in the coming year.
