Being of a technical background, I bought 2 TV-B-Gone units (one as a spare), and integrated one of them into a favorite hat of mine, by running a wire pair from the unit, mounted up in the crown of the hat with the LED facing front, down to a membrane switch button hidden under the hat's brim.
Countless times by now, with *complete stealth* and no-one ever suspecting, during the innocent motion of seeming to straighten my hat (while pushing the little momentary contact button, I've helped to bring peace and actual human interaction to various pubs, shopping malls, and many more locations.
Having the device built into the hat as I've done, solves and eliminates completely the problem of ever getting caught, all while *seeming to be watching the TV you're aimed at* (while the unit runs through all of its codes), and when the TV in question then blanks out, I simply stroll away casually. It works. Every single time.

Thank you for your kind words, Holly!
From a perspective of total stealth without fear of repercussions, it has been interesting to study the behaviour of people either showing relief, or with others withdrawal, when the big screen TV goes black in a pub or store. And of course, some may not even notice, except perhaps only on a subconscious level, that it's more peaceful all of a sudden.
One of the *biggest* advantages to the TV-B-Gone sometimes taking a while to get to the right code for the TV your supposedly watching (read: "aiming at") is that it gives you time to go from the "brim straightening motion" to a hands-at-your-side, arms-folded, whathaveyou -position...basically something *very* different from anything anyone would associate with the TV suddenly going black. I don't see that delay as a glitch at all, but a *feature*, that I take advantage of to the full.
While I like the compact size of the unit, the sight of someone holding out and aiming something resembling a remote is very easy to spot and associate with the subsequent result of, for example, all the TVs in an appliance store suddenly going off. I recall one poster here that got banned from the store he actually *liked* going to for that reason...hence my solution.
During a weekend up at my gf's family's cabin a few weeks back, for some reason the TV kept having problems (attributed to the summer heat!), causing the small kids glued to it to finally get out into the forest with their parents, and before long, all were having fun playing, splashing and wading in the beautiful, shade-dappled stream that runs behind the cabin. One of the kids remarked to his dad, about how fun it was, by saying:
"Dad", this is *awesome*!
Yes...I agree. Much more "awesome" than getting plopped-down in front of cartoons being used as a baby-sitting device.
Real adventures...that's the ticket!
